Today we’d like to introduce you to Ramona Cadenhead.
Hi Ramona, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I married my high school sweetheart right after graduation — I was 16, he was 18 — and we’ve been building a life together ever since. We raised three kids, and now we’re blessed with three grandkids. It hasn’t always been easy; we’ve made plenty of mistakes along the way, but we’ve always worked hard and done our best to keep moving forward.
I’ve lived with Narcolepsy for all of my adult life, and the side effects have been a constant challenge. But I’ve never let it define me. I still work a full-time job, and I also run a cigar lounge — something I’m incredibly proud of. It’s more than just a business; it’s a space where people connect, unwind, and feel at home.
My journey is one of grit, love, and learning. I’m still growing, still hustling, and still showing up — for my family, my work, and myself.
We moved to Granbury to have a slower pace of life (ha ha) about 8 years ago. I was furloughed from my job during Covid, so we purchased a cigar company from some friends on January 1, 2021. I did eventually go back to work, and the cigar business has continued to grow. We have poured blood, sweat, tears and lots of money into it and now have a cigar lounge just off the historic Granbury Square. It is myself, my husband and my son. It is amazing how many other opportunities it has opened up for us. We even do a women’s Bible Study on Monday nights in the backyard of the lounge. We are not about getting rich, we are about faith, family and relationships. When you come into our lounge, you are family.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting out at 16 with a husband and a baby puts you in a bit of a financial disadvantage from the get-go. I had never had a job before I was married. My Narcolepsy has always been a struggle in so many ways, but you just have to keep going – especially when you are raising young kids. At my age now, it is a bit different because your body doesn’t always let you keep going. The upside of struggling young is learning how to not give up. We had our 41st anniversary in July this year.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Although my professional life and career have been very different from the cigar industry and I am very proud of everything I have accomplished there, I will answer from that perspective because that is what people around here know me from.
I love to be creative with the things that we do. When we do events at Bogeys and Stogies, instead of just a “normal” event, I have to have a theme and contests. We will handle the main meat/dish and then will have a side dish contest and sometimes a dessert contest as well that go along with the theme. The customers that purchase the meal get to vote on the winner and 1st loser (2nd place) and I make ridiculous trophies for them that also go with the theme. Everything we do needs to be fun and inviting or otherwise, why do it? I have a room of crazy items I pick up at antique shops and thrift stores and Facebook Marketplace, etc. to be used for something funny for an event, something to use as a decoration or something for a gift I am making someone.
I am most proud of my family. They are everything to me.
If you ask most people around here what sets me apart from others, I would bet the words glitter and sparkles would be somewhere in the answer.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I love when other small businesses want to do an event together. I absolutely love supporting and working with all the other small businesses around town. We need each other and I love that. Having a cigar lounge, I love to go to other ones and share ideas and learn from each other. but any businesses have experience and knowledge that will help others. The best thing people can do is promote us to those they know, share knowledge with us and be honest.
