Today we’d like to introduce you to Resa Curbo.
Hi Resa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I really enjoy creating, crafting, and trying new things. After attending a felt flower workshop four years ago, I fell in love with the process of making felt flowers and dedicated myself to developing that skill. It took a couple of years for me to figure out what kind of felt to buy, what tools to use, and how to make different styles of flowers. Since I love crafting with friends, I began sharing my creative process on social media.
As a busy mom, I’m slowly developing my small business. I am passionate about pursuing and prioritizing my creativity while meeting the many daily demands of my time and energy. Felt flowers bring a lot of joy and excitement to my life and I’m thankful for the opportunity to share my passion with other people.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I often have to try something, adjust, and try again. Felt flowers are not common and it has been a challenge to find resources and information for growing my knowledge of the craft. Finding a wholesaler was a big accomplishment for me as well as learning how to use certain tools to streamline the process of flower making. I have learned to jump in and do it rather than overthink it.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I love using color, shape, and texture to create felt flowers that bring people joy. Felt flowers are such a fun way to add lasting beauty to our environment. Specific flowers and colors connect us to special memories or people in our lives. And anybody can keep them alive…forever!
I also love teaching people how to make felt flowers because the creative process itself is my favorite part. Building a community of people on social media who love to create and learn new things together is an honor. And I’m always happy to answer any questions! I am also working on developing kits for people to learn and make felt flowers at home without having to collect all of the felt materials and shapes. I hope to eliminate any barriers that might keep you from enjoying the creative process of felt flower making!
What do you think about luck?
I have learned to sit and create and try new things without any expectations because you never know when the next lucky idea might strike! Some of my favorite flowers were made on accident or as inspiration struck during a different project. As much as I enjoy making felt flowers that I have mastered through lots of practice, I am always creating and making new ideas so that I can learn more.
