Today we’d like to introduce you to Richard Smith
Hi Richard , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m an independent hiphop artist from Canton, Ms now based in Dallas , TX. I started writing around the age of nine. I was a huge fan of Michael Jackson, 2 Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., Bone Thugs n Harmony, Scarface, and JAY Z. Around high school I joined a rap group we did a lot of local talent shows and concerts in our area. From there I continued pursuing music going on the road and touring the South and releasing multiple projects. My music is inspired by the environment I grew up in and I try to use it as a tool to reach the youth in a positive manner. I want to show the young people that it’s more to life than what they see everyday. Right now I’m working on a new project “Legends Of The Summer “ and it’s coming out April 18th I’m excited about that.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Alot of peaks and valleys for sure. As an independent artist we all face alot of the same challenges sometimes it’s lack of support and sometimes it’s lack of resources. I’ve learned to do the most with what I have and let everything else take care of itself. Sometimes we can be our own worst enemy so it’s also about clearing those mental roadblocks.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an artist/ entrepreneur. I’ve also added vocal engineer to the list of the many things that I do. As an independent artist you have to wear many hats. One day I’m doing graphic design and the next day I’m on the phone with program directors trying to get my record played. But my heart is in writing and recording I love that as an artist I’m able to turn a thought into a tangible product. I think the thing that separates me from other artists is my honesty and the passion that I put into my craft.
What are your plans for the future?
The new project “Legends Of The Summer “ coming April 18th. My website http://rcmedia.music is live right now. And it basically represents my pivot to moving in other areas of the industry. RC Media Group is my new brand and it’s going to be dealing with film, sync, and pushing my catalog.
