Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Polson. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Homestead Underground Band aka “HUB” was founded in October 2016 by Robert Polson and Keith Hess and soon in pulled in our heartbeat of the band, drummer, Adam Hardy. Starting out as an acoustic/electric duo and quickly expanding to a 5-piece band layering in bass, drums, rhythm guitar, electric, fiddle, harmonica, keyboards, and mandolin. One of our singers, Aly Hess, has been a great addition to our sound allowing us to expand out musical genre and play different styles of music appealing to everyone. We’ve had singers that have rotated in and out each time impacting our sound and repertoire.
We have a focus on the North Dallas community playing at local restaurants and bars, including local wineries. Our focus has been on expanding the local music scene, mentoring young aspiring artists, and helping put Frisco “on the map” as the live music city of North Dallas area.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We’ve been together since inception in 2016 and remain an active band with some additions and subtractions. Being together for 7 years and still enjoying playing together. Our challenge has been to bring in other musicians, like a keyboard player, steel guitar, or other types of instruments that would help add a layer of “color” to our sound. Finding a musician that can commit to weekly practices and monthly gigs and who is on our level, musically, stylistic, and mentally is not easy. Also, trying to find new venues to play can be challenging as well as coordinating schedules with band members to make sure we can pull everyone together. This has caused us to be flexible in playing different setups, such as a 1 man acoustic, 2 man, all the way to full band, and anything in between.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We are a group of friends that love music. We like to explore different genres decades and create original music that is different yet resonates with our listeners. Our main singer-songwriter has a gift for writing songs that reflect memories of that first kiss, that first fight, and that first drink. His style of music reflects his experiences expanding from OK to TX and his lyrics reflect stories of life, love, and challenges that everyone faces. And from time to time, and depending on our singer, we also like to sing songs that everyone knows and can sing along with.
What makes you happy?
We are happy when we are playing for a room full of people who are just out looking to have a good night, listening to good music, whether we wrote it or just performed it.
