Today we’d like to introduce you to Ronnie Malamura.
Hi Ronnie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I always loved makeup as a little girl, I would always ask for kids makeup and lipgloss for Christmas every year and I loved watching my mom when she would get ready. I always knew from a young age that I wanted to be a makeup artist. The older I got I would sit in my room and do looks and play with colors over and over again. I had a love for art as well so I started to incorporate my love for painting and art with my makeup, playing with different colors and looks. At 16 I started doing bridal makeup along side my hair stylist. I was young but she believed in me. At 18 I decided to go to a makeup school and regained my love for editorial and color. I learned airbrush, body painting and SFX. I work my dream job now as a makeup artist, started my own business and also work with a local bridal team.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s definitely been such a learning experience along the way. Starting so young, I really didn’t know anything about a business or have any of the technique I carry now. I’m always growing and learning and wanting to improve. Makeup school was a struggle because although I loved it, it felt very competitive at times and it was hard not to beat your self up when feeling like you could’ve done better. I felt like I always had to strive and be perfect in school and that started to take a toll on how I was viewing my work.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a bridal makeup artist and I specialize in soft glam looks. What sets me apart from others is my well roundedness. Im able to achieve a look that is natural or editorial. I’m proud of my willingness to always learn and grow and better. That allows me to be able to cater to any client need or situation. I love always getting to do something different and explore other forms of art through makeup.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I got really lucky with my hair stylist letting me work weddings with her at 16. She was my first foot in the door and I was able to start my career of very young and get more experience because of her.
