Daily Inspiration: Meet Russell Martz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Russell Martz.

Hi Russell, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started playing in bands back in 2005, and that’s where it all started. In 2008 called Speak Now Against The day and we had started gaining a good following and wanted to put out a record but didn’t have the money to pay for studio time. So I decided I would start learning to record my own music so any band I played in or any music I made, I could release myself. Fast forward a to 2012 after multiple bands and a few tours here and there I decided it was time for me to focus on my own individual music career. I decided to start producing and writing for solo artists in my area. I started by recording different local pop and hip hop artists for little to no cost just so I could produce for them and get my music heard. That was about 10 years ago, and I have since worked with many local artists as well as a few major label artists and have started creating my own little community of producers and engineers on all of my socials. I also have been editing podcasts and creating music for other content creators. I work at a studio now in Fort Worth called Crooked 2th studios located in Northside.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all. I had to learn how to start a small business from nothing and navigate the social media side of things as well. It has been an uphill battle, and I’ve been rejected plenty of times, but I continue to hit milestones in my business and my art every year.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an audio engineer/producer. I write music for solo artists of all genres and help them build their sound from the ground up. I am proud of many things, but mostly the consistent work I put in and my dedication to always trying to get better.

Something that sets me apart from others is I will always go out of my way to make sure the artist I’m working with is 100% happy with their product, and I can make any vision they have for their music come to life.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters to me most is making music that I enjoy and believe in. I also want to make sure it’s always fun.
