Daily Inspiration: Meet Samya Jackson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samya Jackson.

Hi Samya, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Fashion has been a part of my life since childhood, shaped by a culturally rich home and a mother who poured time into my wardrobe and hair. Influenced by the style and versatility of artists like Beyoncé, Mary J. Blige, Jay-Z, and Kanye West—and inspired by iconic on-screen fashion from Raven-Symoné, Vivica A. Fox, and Tyra Banks—I gradually developed a strong personal style that others quickly recognized.

During the 2020–2022 COVID era, I began sewing and designing my own clothing, discovering how therapeutic and creatively freeing the process was. Realizing my passion, I started creating pieces not just for myself but for others. Encouraged by my cousin Erica LeFlore, I moved from Auburn Hills, Michigan to Texas, where I worked under her and her company “Contourier” and entered the fashion industry.

Since then, I’ve continued designing, networking, competing in the FWD Fashion Group design competition, and even showcasing one of my looks on Good Morning Dallas. I’m now focused on building my brand, creating distinctive designs, and establishing myself in Dallas as a young African American designer. In 2026, I plan to enroll in fashion design school to sharpen my skills and deepen my knowledge of fashion history.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I am blessed and deeply grateful for my ongoing journey. I’m proud of myself for stepping outside my comfort zone and taking risks. As a self-taught, newly emerging seamstress and designer, I’m genuinely pleased with what I’ve accomplished and experienced in such a short time. I’ve made mistakes—and I’ll surely make more—but I no longer see them as failures. Instead, I view them as lessons and sources of wisdom. I wouldn’t have it any other way, and I’m excited to see where this path leads me next.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I design urban wear inspired by both vintage and contemporary fashion, creating pieces that stand out with their own unique style. My work is chic, versatile, and rooted in bold creativity. I love working with distinctive patterned and textured fabrics such as faux fur, jacquard, leather, and denim.

Growing up in the Motor City, I infuse my designs with Detroit’s signature flashy swag—from the leather to the faux fur to the bling—bringing northern edge and attitude to every piece.

How do you define success?
Success, to me, is the ability to pursue what you’re truly passionate about and see meaningful, positive results. Those results come from setting clear goals for yourself, committing to the work required, and steadily achieving the milestones that move you closer to what you’re striving for.
