Today we’d like to introduce you to Bela Von Gosi.
Hi Bela, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Having moved to DFW in 2018, I left my performance career of gogo, fire dancing, and aerial acrobatics back on Pittsburgh, PA. I started work for a company call Vitalitree Tattoo where I drive all over Texas introducing our skin care products to tattooers and their clientele. After a few years, I found Delilah Dubois, who gave me shot at burlesque in Dallas. At her show Behind the Bookcase, I found my passion. Now working regularly with Double D Productions and Tempest Productions, I get to shadow and learn from some of the most amazing artists to come thru DFW.
Now that I’m working with Spyke Styletto to produce shows in Fort Worth, I get to experiment with the skills that I pick up Dallas. We are currently cultivating our audience for monthly residencies at Hollywood’s Pour Shack and The Haltom Theater.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
This journey has called for a lot of growth for sure. Since starting burlesque, I have had to learn to let go of perfection. I’ve learned to give myself grace in the face of failure. Getting back up on the stage after feeling defeated by costume malfunctions and missed choreography cues takes courage each time. I have the capacity to really beat myself up if I didn’t feel 100% satisfied by my performance. Learning to let go of my own expectations and to just enjoy my time on the stage has made me a better performer and a happier person in general.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
If you decide to come to one of my shows, be prepared for drama. Utilizing feathers, vintage-style costuming, and handmade showgirl headdresses, I hope to transport my audience back to the days of the silver screen. If I start to feel like “maybe this is a bit much,” that’s when I know I’ve gotten to the sweet spot. I also strive to make sure everyone in the audience feels like they’ve had their own unique experience with me, stopping at each table for a quick moment during my act.
Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I would certainly call myself a risk-taker. I prefer to experiment with concepts and props on the floor with a live audience. This is where the monthly shows come into play for my growth as an entertainer. Our residencies nurture a regular crowd that feel like friends than an audience. This is where I feel comfortable to try out new ideas. There is just something about a live crowds feedback that you can never get from studios, mirrors, or recordings. So come out, maybe you’ll catch something brand new!
