Daily Inspiration: Meet Selina Mahon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Selina Mahon.

Selina Mahon

Hi Selina, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
(Hey Yall, I’m Selina Mahon, originally a Little Rock, Arkansas native but have been in Dallas for 8 years now.) I started my business as a mobile stylist, and at the height of COVID, my clientele picked up because I was making house calls. I made sure I was taking the necessary and recommended precautions because I was not in a salon space and had to enter residences. So, when restrictions were lax, and salons were allowed to reopen, I was in a position where I could now operate out of a salon space or suite, which was something I always wanted to go back to. I had the opportunity to share a suite with another stylist who was only servicing her clientele on Thursdays, so the rest of the week was reserved for my clients. She retired at the end of last year, which allowed me to take full ownership of the space, and The Virtuous Collection Inc., LLC was birthed. The Virtuous Collection is centered around the scripture reference of the Virtuous Woman in Proverbs 31. I want every woman that comes in contact with my business to know, “It’s not just about the service I’m providing, but it’s about ministry and building a relationship and creating an experience that they will always remember.” I also have male clientele (that I) like to keep empowered and inspired as well. My prayer has always been Lord, whomever comes and sits in my chair let them be sent by YOU. The Virtuous Collection is bigger than ME and all about God.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I will say within the last year and a half it hasn’t been the smoothest road due to going through a very difficult divorce. My clients have witnessed the highs and the lows, the ups and downs of emotions, and trauma of dealing with and suffering from narcissistic abuse at the hands of my ex and mother. The struggles I faced along the way, God has definitely been Faithful to me in the midst of it all, and my business has thrived in the midst of the chaos. I have truly been blessed while going through the storm. This road has now pushed me into Purpose, and I will be releasing my first book next year around my birthday. This pain will not be in vain, and I will use it to help other women come out of traumatic relationships. Also, while doing what I love, which is using my hands to provide healthy haircare, a peaceful atmosphere, and so much more.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I like to call myself a Healthy Haircare Specialist and Loctician that specializes in healthy haircare, locs, silk presses, natural styles, and more. I would say at this point, I am most known for my loc work. I still ask myself, “How did I become a loctician”? But I love it here. What I am most proud of are these opportunities to be interviewed and share a bit of my story, a piece of me and my business. What I would say sets me apart from others is that it is truly my prayer and heart’s desire that whomever sits in my chair be sent by the Lord. And I understand that “It’s not just about the service I’m providing, but it’s about ministry and building a relationship and creating an experience that they will always remember.” (What I’m currently focused on is Becoming the the Absolute Best and Healed version of Myself. The Woman I have never known but AM Becoming.  There is Purpose in Pain and I’m using it to heal Me from the inside out and also being a vessel used by God to share my journey and story. As I’m coming out I’m pulling other young ladies and women out too. This is PURPOSE!!!)

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I am an avid viewer of YouTube. I often receive a lot of spiritual fulfillments through watching many sermons by Sarah Jakes-Roberts, TD Jakes, Dr. Myles Munroe, Bishop RC Blakes, and so many more, along with some podcasts I like to tune into. I am currently reading a book titled “Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents” “How to heal from Distant, Rejecting or Self-Involved Parents” as I continue on this healing journey.
