Today we’d like to introduce you to Shaquata Bright.
Shaquata, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hello, my name is Shaquata Bright I’m a Certified Pro MUA and a licensed lash artist with also a degree in business. I’m originally from Louisiana and moved to Dallas in 2018. My journey for the beauty industry started in 2011 when I started practicing makeup. I stopped for a few years due to it was just a hobby, when I moved to Dallas I started thinking and realizing my calling was missing I was bouncing from job to job due to I being unhappy. When the pandemic began I started asking God where was I supposed to be seeing how our lives changed so instantly I begin to pray daily on my purpose and God said it’s time to own your own business I attended college a few years back but never finished so I reenrolled back into college to finish my degree in business but also God told me get back to where you started which was makeup, but this time I wanted to not just do makeup for fun I wanted to take it seriously so I begin looking for a school and found Boss beauty makeup academy I enrolled there in Feb of 2021. I knew by learning from the very basic style of makeup to expert freelancing that I could go as far as I dreamed and I did I graduated boss beauty makeup academy in June of 2021 and also won the makeup competition. Even though I was super excited with graduating makeup school and taking clients something was still missing with me I had another passion that I was sitting on which was lash extensions so the journey began because I didn’t want to just take a course, I wanted to go all the way so I went back to God and asked could he lead me to the right school which he lead me to DFW Lash university I started there Sept of 2021 and graduated March of 2022. I also graduated in Dec of 2021 with my degree in business. while attending DFW Lash university I also took a lash course with Tiana sow and met my amazing mentor Vernecia with prettynwink. These two ladies and DFW lash university really prepared me to not only to be a bomb lash artist but an amazing businesswoman. Going to school for three different things in one year was rough I cried many days due to still working full-time majority of the year and being a wife and mom of three boys as well but I always kept God first and he provided for me. I faced a lot of trials and had a rough year but I didn’t allow that to affect my dreams and where I wanted to be. So where am I today I have an amazing suite located in Carrolton Texas I’m fully licensed and certified to do lashes and makeup my business is growing daily and looking forward to owning my own beauty bar soon I wanted to provide a beauty bar for Queens to come and take a load off and feel like the Queen that they are.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
This journey to where I am has not being easy, I have faced medical and financial trails along the way dealing with multiply blood clots in my lungs and small brain tumor with severe anxiety def took a toll on me mentally and financially. It took a lot of prayer and faith and my family to help me get through some of my darkest moments and I was able to overcome the many obstacles I faced.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
