Daily Inspiration: Meet Shawn Goodman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shawn Goodman.

Hi Shawn, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Born in the Green Bay, Wisconsin foster system, my life is always been about perseverance. I grew up with a Foster family there. I moved to Duncanville to stay with relatives of my foster parents. This give me a chance to have a better life. Growing up, I fell in love with music and soccer, made friends in school, and endured many hardships feeling like I wasn’t accepted. The one thing that always got me through life was music. I wanted to be an artist and I felt like it was my destiny. I also felt the need to help other underprivileged and abused kids, so I joined a camp located in South Dallas called Camp Impact. I eventually became a camp counselor, where I on helped kids through their own hardships.

The summer of 2019, while attending the camp, we had taken all the kids to go roller skating. We were all skating around having fun, and then I fell and hit my head. I got up with a piercing headache and severe nausea. I brushed it off, thinking that I just hit my head a little too hard. I dealt with the pain and got through the day to finally arrive home and ask my aunt to go to the hospital. When I arrived, they told me that they could not take care of me and they needed to send me to another hospital. After the transfer, I was told that I had not only one but two ruptured brain aneurysms. The aneurysms in my brain burst when I snapped my head up to prevent it from hitting the ground. They had to perform emergency surgery in order to put coils around both of them. Due to my condition I had to learn how to walk, talk, and remember things again. The immediate recovery took two months, and I’m still recovering to this day, dealing with lapses in memory and fatigue. A year after the incident, I had taken along-time friend of mine’s, Andrue Ferry, offer for him to help me achieve my dreams of being a music artist. He had offered and help me over the years and is one of the main reasons of why I am where I am today.

I now work in daycares and plan on attending Camp Impact in the future. Through the hard work that Andrue and I have done, I now have a debut single, a five-track EP, an album with pre-releasing singles on March 1st, May 1st, and June 30th, and the final nine track album releasing on September 1st. Throughout all of this, we have made business relationships with multiple creative professionals across Dallas and the United States. We have built platforms on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, have released music across all major streaming platforms, and have a music video for the debut single and multiple more planned. We have also started a soft partnership with The Aneurysm and AVM Foundation, or TAAF, based in California. My near-death experience from my brain aneurysms has made me realize that life is too short to not do what you want to. My ultimate goal is to spread love, acceptance, and awareness for all people in every condition. Andrue and I, as a team, also want to create a platform for all those who want to make music independently. Going forward, I just want to be great and leave a legacy. My Artist Name is Mr Goodman My EP is “Ninety-Four” My Album will be called “Hearts Unknown.”

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being a foster child for sure. Feelings of loneliness and abandonment. It took a long time for me to find my tribe. Acceptance was a big issue for me growing up. The brain aneurysms that I endured in 2019 was a major turning point for my life. Although I am still recovering, I don’t let a day go by without something important being accomplished.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in writing, singing, and rough drafting music. I also write and make comedic videos on social media. The music I make is a combination of old-style R&B, Soul, and Pop with a Modern Sound. I am most proud of my five-track EP, which feels like your time traveling from the 90s to today. What sets me apart from others is the way I write and the way I promote my music. The promotion campaign that we are currently performing is set to have giveaways and direct interaction with fans across multiple platforms. The next project is to engage other creators across those platforms and create a full collaboration project.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Harry Potter for sure. I’m really into Instagram and TikTok currently. I don’t really listen to many podcasts, but I do tune into The Aneurysm and AVM Foundation when they put out live streams. Also,  I do listen to a podcast by a guy named Adam 22. The environment he creates in this podcasts is very chill and he talks about the greatest hits in music from old to new and even legendary. His commentary is very intuitive.
