Daily Inspiration: Meet Sherry Walters

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherry Walters.

Hi Sherry, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We opened in Nov 2017 with a primary focus on Animal Chiropractic and Wellness Care. We have evolved based on client and pet needs. We currently provide General Practice Veterinary Care with a focus on chiropractic, dentistry and aging wellness. We have in clinic diagnostic laboratory capabilities, digital x-ray, grooming and a surgical procedure room which meets our clients needs within the scope of our capabilities. We enjoy participating in conversations with clients and offering guidance on options for care of their pets. We have a good community that is developing around us, and people are learning about our offerings and spreading the word. We have a great staff here and work together to support client needs. We also reach out to other providers in the Veterinary Community and offer referrals for advanced and specialty care services.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Overall our evolution has been enlightening. Like many other essential service providers we had to adapt to the Covid impact. This was at a time when our business was very young. We operated curbside as directed by the CDC and this was certainly a time of adaptation for all. Beyond that we rallied and returned to business as usual and welcomed clients back in clinic. Staffing, scheduling, inventory, continuing education, facility improvements [ we rent a modest but hardy little building ] and ongoing commercial growth in our neighborhood has all continued to keep our ambitions fresh and inspired.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As the business owner and the Veterinarian, I wear many hats. I did not go to business school, But I have been educated for certain. This business was born from opportunity and necessity. I have a passion to care for animals. And it is very important to me that pet owners understand the ‘whys’ of what we discuss. Client education / mutual conversation in goal setting for pet care, health and wellness and projecting the future care needs is very important to me. I am also very transparent. When I don’t know or I don’t have all the answers, then it is time to see someone else, a specialist or other practitioner. I also enjoy learning from clients, things that work well or not so well for their pets. I have read some of our Google Reviews. I am humbled and honored that our clients speak so kindly of our services. I will tell them, I am very happy to be a part of their pet care team. I am surrounded by passionate people in this clinic who put their hearts into their work. This type of work can be demanding on staff. Positive client feedback has more impact than people know. I can only do what I do because I am surrounded by such dedicated staff and blessed with clients that are committed to their pets care and wellness.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Tomboy. Animal magnet. I grew up in the Midwest. We lived between corn and bean fields. Our road was a common area for stray animals to suddenly ‘appear’. Naturally, to my parents delight [ sarcasm ], I would bring them home. I always knew I wanted to be a Veterinarian. I remember my parents had Encyclopedia Britannica. I flipped to “v’, because if I was going to be it, I should know how to spell it. I was eight years old. Personality – outgoing, awkward, clumsy and fun. I rode a horse in 4-H from age 12 to 15, and every other day of the year. Horse riding in snow is fun. 🙂 My parents were practical people. We had chores, gardening before play etc. I enjoyed working the garden, gathering eggs and other rural tasks. We had a basketball pad and played HORSE. We went ice fishing, and summer boating. I enjoyed all those activities.
