Today we’d like to introduce you to Sydney Donatella.
Hi Sydney, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in the DFW area, but I’m currently navigating law school in Houston. I went to the University of Houston, where I graduated Magna Cum Laude and majored in Public Health. After that, I attended Texas Woman’s University to receive my MBA and graduated with a 3.5 GPA. I never really had law on my radar growing up, but everything changed when my older brother became a lawyer. I guess you could say he unknowingly inspired me—though, I’m not going to admit that to him! Throughout my law school journey, I’ve kept up with content creation as a way to keep my life feeling normal amidst all the chaos. It’s been a way to document the fun memories and balance the tough moments, bringing a little bit of joy to an otherwise intense experience.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Law school, in particular, is a monster—it’s not only difficult but incredibly time-consuming. On top of that, you’re constantly having to unlearn old habits and ways of thinking and work to bring all of these pieces together to succeed. Content creation has its own set of challenges. It’s tough to get started and even harder to stay consistent when you’re juggling studying, keeping in touch with family, and maintaining a regular life. But despite the challenges, I genuinely enjoy both law school and content creation. They both push me in different ways, and I wouldn’t change a thing.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in showcasing the ‘life of a busy, boujee law student.’ It might sound cliché, but it’s the truth! I wanted to emphasize that law school doesn’t have to consume your entire life or take away from the things that make it fun. I’ve been able to balance my studies while still enjoying the things I did before law school. The only real change is that I might need to head home a little earlier to study, but that’s perfectly fine with me. What sets me apart is my ability to merge a rigorous academic life with a fun, fulfilling lifestyle—proving that it’s possible to have both.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I think one of the biggest risks I’ve taken was moving away from my family to attend law school. It was my first time living on my own, and starting law school while adjusting to life as an adult for the first time was definitely intimidating. Another risk I took was picking up a camera for content creation. I had concerns because social media can sometimes be a negative space, but over time, both the legal field and social media have helped me develop a thicker skin. They’ve allowed me to hear many different points of view without taking things personally, which has been a big part of my personal growth.
