Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamara Redmond.
Hi Tamara, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
For five years, I worked in Financial Services at St. Jude Research Hospital. It was meaningful work, but I knew deep down it wasn’t the career I wanted to retire from. Every day I prayed: “God, I want a career where, no matter what I do, people feel good after leaving my presence. If they’ve had a bad day or received hard news, let them walk away feeling better about themselves.”
Because my background was in healthcare, I thought the answer would be nursing, radiology, or social work. I even got accepted into nursing school and later applied for a master’s program in social work. But neither sparked the fire within me.
Then the pandemic arrived. In 2020, while sitting at home like many others, I made what seemed like a random decision: “I’m going to teach myself how to do nails.” At the time, I had no idea this was the path God intended for me. It wasn’t just about nails—it was about healing, creativity, and connection.
On February 23, 2023, I picked up my very first acrylic brush. That date would later inspire the name of my brand: StudioTwo23.
Fast forward to today, and I am blessed to be a highly requested nail artist, consistently booked months in advance. My specialty is trendy, detailed, and bold nail art that challenges me creatively and allows my clients to feel celebrated and confident. Every day I practice my craft, and to this day I still take nail art classes—always eager to learn new techniques. It’s so rewarding, and sometimes I can’t believe I created such a fire look with my own hands.
Looking back, I realize that what started as a moment of boredom was actually divine direction. I never imagined nails would become my career, but God had a plan greater than my own. By trusting Him, I discovered a gift I didn’t know was inside me—and a business that has completely transformed my life.
StudioTwo23 isn’t just about nails. It’s about an experience, a feeling, and a reminder that when you trust God with your journey, He will exceed your expectations in ways that truly blow your mind.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. When I first started, my family wasn’t very supportive because doing nails seemed so out of the blue. They were nervous, and I understand why—stepping into self-employment means you’re 100 percent dependent on yourself. I had to prove to them, and to myself, that this was more than just a hobby. That motivated me to stay consistent, practice daily, and invest in my growth.
In the beginning, there were plenty of trial-and-error moments. My sets didn’t always look how I envisioned, and I had to remind myself that progress takes time and patience. I was also walking away from a stable career in healthcare finance, which meant juggling bills, responsibilities, and investing in products, classes, and equipment at the same time.
Another challenge was confidence. I would compare myself to nail techs who had been doing this for years and sometimes doubt myself. But instead of letting that stop me, I used it as fuel. I practiced every single day and still take nail art classes now because there’s always something new to learn.
Today, the same family who was unsure at first has become my biggest support system. My parents are fully invested in my business—my dad can’t go to the corner store, church, a restaurant, or even the doctor’s office without showing people my work. What once worried them now makes them proud, and they rest easy knowing I’ve built a successful career doing what I love.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the owner and creative force behind StudioTwo23, a luxury nail brand where every set is a blend of artistry, self-care, and confidence. I specialize in trendy, detailed, and bold nail art—everything from 3D designs and hand-painted art to blinged-out statement nails. My clients often come to me when they want something creative, unique, and personalized.
What I’m most proud of is the experience I provide. I don’t just do nails; I create an atmosphere where clients feel seen, heard, and celebrated. People walk in looking for a service but leave feeling uplifted, pampered, and confident. That has always been my prayer—to make sure people feel good once they leave my presence—and I live that out with every appointment.
What sets me apart is consistency, creativity, and passion for growth. I practice every day and still take advanced nail art classes because I believe there’s always a new technique to master. I challenge myself with designs that push my skills and sometimes even surprise me with what I’m able to create. My clients know when they book with me, they’re getting not just nails, but wearable art that makes a statement.
At the end of the day, I think what makes StudioTwo23 different is that it’s rooted in purpose. This isn’t just a career for me—it’s a calling. My work is where faith, artistry, and entrepreneurship come together, and that’s why my clients stay loyal and continue to keep me fully booked month after month.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Absolutely. My biggest resource is prayer and devotion—spending time with God keeps me grounded and focused on my purpose. Spiritually, that’s what guides every decision I make.
On the business side, I use GlossGenius to manage bookings and keep my schedule organized, which makes a huge difference as a busy nail artist. Social media apps like Instagram, TikTok, and Pinterest are also big resources for me because they keep me inspired with new trends and allow me to share my work with a wider audience.
I’m also a huge believer in continuous learning. I follow nail educators online, invest in nail art classes, and watch tutorials to learn new techniques. And when it comes to mindset and motivation, I enjoy listening to Tony Evans, who is based out of Dallas, TX. His teachings inspire me to stay consistent, keep my faith strong, and move with purpose in both life and business.
All of these resources—faith, organization tools, creative platforms, and motivational voices—work together to keep me at my best, both as an artist and as a person.
