Daily Inspiration: Meet Teirra Grimes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Teirra Grimes.

Hi Teirra,  we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hellooo everyone! My name is Teirra Grimes, and my business name is “TamedT”. I have always been interested in the beauty industry- hair, skin, nails, you name it, I will try my best to perfect it. I started out doing hair very young, (my granny would send me to school with pony tails flying left and right) I was fed up with the big bulky bangs so I decided to take control. I started practicing on my grandmother and even my uncle would let me braid his hair. I needed more practice so I started taking clients when I was in high school mostly my close friends, family, and some of my teammates. I moved to Denton after high school with my sister lost in the adult world but I found my passion quickly. I was working and doing hair on the side for extra money, box braids, sew-ins, locs , and any style my clients would throw my way. When the pandemic hit with nothing to do, the nail fairy sprinkled dust in my eyes.. “Teirra you would kill in the nail world” when I started doing nails, I was constantly practicing on my friends and my practice hand even when I caught Covid instead of resting I was in my room practicing every day. In 2021 I took a leap of faith and quit my job to do nails full time in shop with a lady name Melinda I had no plan SHE BELIEVED IN ME, MORE SO MY TALENT. Her shop was located in Lewisville, for about 8 months I grew my clientele, my work got way better, I performed faster, and was making great money more than I knew I possibly could. I left the shop in November when I moved and started doing nails and hair from home which I currently still do until I can find another shop. But constantly practicing and promoting myself is how I got to where I am. I am so thankful for my clients and those that constantly push me to keep striving.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road; I ran into a couple road blocks here and there. When I started doing nails, I didn’t realize how expensive products could be so trying to keep up with new trends and staying stocked up on top of bills was definitely a struggle for me. I’ve always been a hard worker| the hustle is definitely instilled in me, so I would do lyft, Amazon flex, to buy more products for my business. The hardest part about starting from ground up on your own are the slow days/weeks which discouraged me but I just kept pushing and now I have clients constantly coming. Again, shout out to MY CLIENTS!!!!!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others? My work speaks for itself, people love it. Anything I do it’s coming from the heart. I’m going to take my time to make sure it’s right, from application, shaping, to nail my art. My mindset will not change when it comes to the quality I provide to my clients. “I believe in working in collaboration with my clients to achieve the most satisfaction, or inspiration for the service provided- I don’t believe in cutting corners”

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?I really don’t have a favorite I loved all of my childhood thanks to my grandparents.
