Today we’d like to introduce you to Tina Ma.
Hi Tina, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
MYT Art Studio & Gallery began as a dream rooted in my lifelong passion for art and teaching. I have always believed that art is not only a form of self-expression but also a way to build confidence, patience, and imagination—especially in children.
When I first started MYT Art Studio in Fort Worth, my goal was simple: to create a welcoming space where young artists could explore their creativity freely while learning solid artistic techniques. What began as a few small group lessons soon grew into a vibrant community of students, families, and fellow art lovers. Over time, the studio expanded to include after-school programs, weekend classes, private lessons, and student art exhibitions that celebrate creativity and growth.
In recent years, MYT Art Studio & Gallery has also become a platform to support local artists. I help them host exhibitions, promote their work, and connect with a wider audience in the community. It’s deeply rewarding to see both students and local artists find confidence and purpose through art.
Running MYT has been a journey of both art and heart. Each student’s progress and every artist’s success remind me why I started—to inspire others through creativity and to share the joy that comes from making and sharing art with the world.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Just two months after I opened MYT Art Studio, the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Because of the government’s lockdown policies, I had to quickly transition from in-person classes to online teaching.
It was a big challenge, but also a valuable learning experience. During that time, I realized that art education is something truly special—it can’t be fully replaced by a computer screen. In-person learning allows students to experience the essence of painting techniques, the texture of materials, and the creative energy that comes from being in a shared studio space.
In recent years, with the rise of AI technology, people can easily generate images or digital art through computer systems. However, my students and I deeply believe that artwork created by hand carries a warmth, emotion, and authenticity that no technology can replace. A handmade piece reflects the artist’s soul, patience, and individuality—and that’s what makes it truly meaningful.
That experience and reflection have taught me resilience, adaptability, and a deeper appreciation for the human connection that art brings.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At MYT Art Studio & Gallery, I focus on visual art education for children, teens, and adults, helping them build strong technical skills while discovering their own creativity. My teaching combines professional art instruction with a warm, personal approach—each student learns at their own pace, with lessons tailored to their interests and style.
I’m proud that MYT has grown into a creative community where students and local artists can both thrive. We host student exhibitions and community art shows that celebrate artistic growth and connection. What sets my studio apart is not only the quality of instruction but also the heart behind it—our belief that art is more than technique; it’s a language of imagination and emotion that brings people together.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I believe the most important quality behind my success is patience and genuine passion for teaching. Art takes time—it’s about growth, observation, and emotional expression—and the same is true for teaching. I always remind myself to see each student’s journey as unique. Some learn quickly, while others need more time, and both paths are beautiful.
Another key quality is creativity and adaptability. Whether it was facing the pandemic or embracing new art trends, I’ve learned to find creative ways to keep my students inspired and growing. I also believe strongly in connection and empathy—understanding my students, supporting local artists, and building a caring art community have all been at the heart of MYT’s success.
Ultimately, I think success comes from staying true to my purpose: helping others discover the joy of creating something meaningful with their own hands.
