Daily Inspiration: Meet Valeria Cavazos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Valeria Cavazos.

Hi Valeria, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
It all started when I was 16 years old and had my first senior session with a camera that my parents got me for Christmas. From then on, I knew photography was more than just a hobby – it was a true passion. When I was studying abroad in the Netherlands in the summer of 2018, documenting all of my travels with my Sony a5100, I felt so inspired to start my photography business when I returned home. My desire had transformed into a vision, which had blossomed into a reality for which I will be forever grateful for.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, not exactly. When it came to learning Adobe programs, marketing resources, and so on, I didn’t have anyone to help me. From watching YouTube tutorials to investing in courses, workshops, and researching photography gear, I self-taught myself everything. It is still a journey of discovery to this day. But when I look back at my photos from three years ago, I see how much I’ve grown! I push myself to learn as much as possible because I genuinely enjoy what I do.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in Senior and Couple photos. But I’m down to celebrate anything snapping my camera away. Senior portraits are probably what I’m best known for, but I’d like to become an established wedding and couple photographer one day because I love all romantic things. To me, there is nothing more beautiful than capturing two people in love! What I’m known for and what distinguishes me I would say is my posing, experience, and editing style. My editing style is pretty natural, with a hint of earthy and warm tones. I craft custom guides and send them to my seniors in order for them to feel their personalized experience is truly tailored to them. In terms of posing, I give my couples prompts such as nose touches, twirling in nature fields, and tickle fights to capture those genuine in-the-moment feelings.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
When the whole world is slowing down and so is your business, because it did also to the fact, I had a covid wedding. Give yourself grace, patience, and educate yourself in whatever you are wanting to improve.
