Hi Valerie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have always loved to express myself through art and being creative. I feel like that has easily translated into my work as a hairstylist. I started doing hair in 2018 and In 2020 I went independent and opened Valerie Rose Hair. I specialize in vivid/fantasy colors and alternative cuts. From pink hair with rainbow prism highlights to a pride flag inspired color block to a fiery red shag i want to give you the perfect hair to represent your individually creative and beautiful personality!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Going independent was terrifying at first. I was so scared to fail that i was just constantly full of anxiety and was always thinking of the “what ifs”. Having amazing clients who have been with me since the beginning and fully trust me and allow me to have creative freedom has given me so much confidence in myself and my career!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My favorite (and most common) compliment i receive from clients is how comfortable they feel with me and in my salon space. Which means the world to me! I strive to create a safe space where people can relax and freely be themselves with no judgement. The connections i make with people while doing hair will always be so precious to me.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I am obsessed with romantasy(fantasy/romance) books. Sitting down to read a book about a magical world full of dragons, faeries and adventures is my favorite way to end a day. Reading has always been a way for me to de-stress and let my imagination run free.
