Daily Inspiration: Meet WoonHeng Chia

Today we’d like to introduce you to WoonHeng Chia.

Hi WoonHeng, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is WoonHeng and I share Asian plant-based deliciousness that anyone can make in their own kitchen. I grew up in Kuala, Malaysia, a city filled with diverse cultures, which allowed me to have tasted a wide variety of cuisines from a very young age. Malaysia is best known as a foodie haven with a wide array of delicious foods, all thanks to it being a melting pot of ethnicity.

With that in mind, I started an Instagram account to share my recipes and never expected to gather so much support on the platform. With all the amazing support and encouragement, I started to blog so the recipes can be shared with even more people. 99% of my recipes come with a video for all the visual learners. My number one goal is to inspire you to try a meatless dish, one meal at a time.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Having disconnected from social media for many years, it was difficult for me to get on the platform. Luckily, there are numerous articles online that help a beginner like me sail through all the waves easily.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I consider myself as a food blogger who loves to share homemade recipes with others and at the same time introduce a variety of that I love growing up. I’m a homemaker who enjoys food and loves the guesstimate method in cooking. I veganized food where others think it’s not possible. I’m happiest when my readers share their recreations with me using my recipes. I am also truly honored to have a one-on-one cooking session with my favorite actress, Natalie Portman.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Chinese New Year is my favorite day to look forward to every single year. Family gatherings, red packets, and most importantly, delicious food are all the things I look forward to.
