Today we’d like to introduce you to Yesenia Castro.
Yesenia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Let me start by introducing myself, I am Yesenia Castro. I’m an artist that started tattooing 3 years ago. I’m also a full time mother to my 3 beautiful children and wife to my amazing husband, Saul Castro. I was very lucky to marry my high school sweetheart! We have been together half our life. We are young entrepreneurs and business owners of Aesthetic Tattoo Lounge.
Our story began with…
A Dream. A Vision. A manifestation into my own reality.
I always knew I wanted to turn my passion for art into my career, but as a busy mother of 3 I didn’t see it possible. Until I took a leap of faith. I decided to quit my white collar job. Then started my business “Yes Art 101” and created commission paintings, wall murals, wooden art, and custom art decor.
Fast forward to 2021. It was my husband, Saul Castro, who believed in me more than I believed in myself. He took initiative to buy me all the tools I needed to start my tattoo journey. He kept insisting to try this new form of art since I was so good at being creative. So I did. Then wow! I fell in love and felt like I found my purpose to create!
I began to practice on friends & family. In little time, word of mouth spread like wildfire. All that practice helped me get really good-really fast. Now, it was time to take it serious!
2023 came around. We locked in our shop location with a tattoo license and became business owners. This felt unbelievable!
All the meanwhile, i started apprenticing my husband with showing him how to tattoo.
Now looking back after all these years. We have came a long way, from doodling notes and passing them to each other in high school to now working side by side creating life lasting art on people.
2 years in of being tattoo shop owners & operators here in Denton, TX. We continue to learn, grow, and build relationships with our clients/community.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Our biggest challenge at the beginning of our business journey, was experiencing some of the proudest/happiest moments in my life all while going through the toughest/scariest moments in my life. My mom got diagnosed with Cancer the month we were planning our grand opening. This was a tough point for us, but we pushed through. We stayed consistent and remembered why we do what we do and focused on the bigger picture! Now we’re here – my mom’s in remission and we’re looking at better days! Take every day as an opportunity to learn and grow and remember there has to be bad days to have good days.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Im a hispanic female tattoo artist, that specializes in fine line work and floral work. I would like to assume I’m known for having good line work when it comes to tattoos. I’m also the owner of my shop and we work hard to ensure a great experience when booking with us. From cleanliness, great customer service, and good vibes! We try our best to provide a great 1st tattoo experience and make sure to get your photo with our “1st tattoo” prop sign. We are different and we want to stand out. Let’s just say-we’re not your stereotypical tattoo shop.
What makes you happy?
My 3 kids & husband make me the happiest, they are my biggest supporters and without them I wouldn’t be where I am. Also creating forever body art makes me happy because it feeds my soul to see other happiness when they love their tattoo and how much confidence it brings them afterwards. To just know that I was that one who did that is amazing!
