Diane Lee of Coppell Texas on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Diane Lee and have shared our conversation below.

Diane, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
Most of the time potential clients see my work as priced above the average due to the materials and lavish overall look of the finished product. However, my products’ price point is quite the opposite of what potential buyers might think. When an interested client would look closely at the quality of the materials I use and the craftsmanship of every creation I make by hand, I can guarantee you he or she would be very pleased and would definitely agree that the quality and the designs I make are worth every penny and can definitely be defined as a good deal.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a multitasking parent of three young adults, a CHMM (Chief Home Managing Mom) of our own castle, and a creative florist of my floral business name MDW Dallas Decor. Our business’ story started a few years back when I started to offer handmade custom Christmas decor, decor consultation, and decorating services to the busy families of Dallas. Business was tough due to its seasonal nature. Business was not easy when we decided to extend our services and skills to add the fresh floral arrangements to our line of products. We made mistakes along the way but had a strong fighting spirit to carry on by learning the science behind many flower species and their proper care. It was like going back to school and attending biology class again. A lot of research and learning contributed to our current knowledge of fresh flowers.

Our unique custom floral creations and very detailed customer service are what make us stand out from the crowd. Whenever we cater to any client, regardless of their project size, we always make sure to pay attention to their project’s requirements in order to produce the output they expect.

We aim to use high-quality, long-lasting materials for our faux floral decor for special occasions such as Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter. Each piece will be handmade and have a lavish and opulent final overall look, which will be exclusively designed for a specific recipient. We take pride in providing exclusive personalized designs to each client because we want our creations to come with sentimental value.

As for our Fresh Floral product category, we like to use exotic floral species whenever possible and luxurious crystal or glass vases in order to make the fresh arrangement stand out as a whole unit, catching everyone’s attention whenever they enter the room. We do a lot of corporate fresh flower arrangements on a weekly basis with corporate offices all over the Dallas Metroplex. Our corporate fresh floral subscriptions are always designed to suit the office’s interior and theme. Weekly corporate deliveries will always be in different designs while maintaining the company’s theme and budget. We personally attend to the floral care and maintenance of every fresh floral arrangement we deliver to every office in subscription with our service.

By bringing our beautiful, fresh, abundant, and large floral arrangements to companies, offices attract good vibes and uplift the mood of everyone in the room.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
It was that moment when our family attended a church service, during which the pastor made a genuine effort to clarify what is right and what appears right to the confused public. Our pastor strongly suggested standing for what is right solely based on the real truth according to God’s teachings. At this day and age, many of us would take the short and easy way out in order to avoid conflicts or arguments with our family and friends even when our conscience and own eyes see different.
The lesson I learned from the pastor’s sermon is not to lie to myself and to identify each situation based on how I see it. We may think we can fool everyone around us, but the truth is we are forgetting to count ourselves and God in the equation. Therefore, in order to provide ourselves the peace of mind and go to bed with a clear conscience every night, we need to be honest with others even when it is the ugly truth and, of course, to remember to be true to ourselves with our own inner voice.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering is a personal experience for everyone, and I certainly had my fair share of it. Some people utilize their emotions, some use their mental toughness, and some use both to cope with their suffering.
My experience in suffering has taught me two important life lessons: one is to always believe in myself no matter what others may say. And two is to always keep my Faith and Trust in God. There is a divine strength when you incorporate the presence of God into your everyday life.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, since I would only be deceiving myself if I pretended to be someone I’m not. The likelihood that everyone around me will see me for who I really am is pretty high. I can only blame myself for being the clown in that situation.
Furthermore, why not just be direct and honest so that everyone can work toward the same objective?
Naturally, remember to always act politely and with good manners in all of your encounters.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
My very unique amusing personality and of course my all natural beauty which never went under any cosmetic enhancement.
