Dwana Jacob of Lewisville on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Dwana Jacob . Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Dwana , we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day are very intentional and focused on preparing my mind, body, and spirit. I wake up at 4:30 a.m. and head to the gym by 5:00 a.m. During my workout, I listen to personal development content to get my mindset ready for the day. After exercising, I spend time in the sauna, where I read the Bible and journal. This time allows me to reflect, pray, and mentally prepare before the day begins.

Once I finish at the gym, I go home and take a shower, which helps me reset and transition into family time. I then spend a few quiet moments connecting with my husband before we wake up the kids and help them get ready for school. Starting my day this way allows me to show up grounded, focused, and present for my family and the rest of my responsibilities.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Dwana Jacob, and I’m an entrepreneur with a passion for helping both people and animals thrive. I am the owner of PAWsitively PURRfect Petsitting, a full-service pet sitting and in-home veterinary care business. I’ve worked in the veterinary field for over 15 years as a veterinary technician, where I’ve gained hands-on experience placing catheters, drawing blood, administering IV fluids, monitoring surgeries, sedating animals, giving routine vaccinations, running blood work, and utilizing laboratory equipment such as microscopes. What makes my work unique is that I bring many of these veterinary technician services directly into clients’ homes, allowing pets to receive care in a familiar, low-stress environment. In addition, I provide services such as nail trims, anal gland expression, ear cleanings, dog walking, and personalized pet care.

Alongside my work in animal care, I am also a health coach and the owner of a satellite nutrition club called Fresh Fit and Lit. Through this platform, I run 21-day transformation challenges and ongoing monthly programs, awarding over $10,000 in cash to the top 10 participants with the most impactful transformations. My mission is to help people become healthier not just physically, but mentally and emotionally as well.

I also support my husband in his landscaping business whenever needed. I’m hands-on and not afraid to get dirty — whether that’s helping with design, planting, laying mulch, or working with dirt and rock. I believe in leading by example and doing whatever it takes to get the job done.

Currently, I’m focused on building a team of like-minded individuals who are driven to grow, serve others, and create impact. My goal is to take my businesses international this year while continuing to help as many people and animals as possible along the way.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationships that have most shaped how I see myself are my husband and my business mentors. They gave me the tools, perspective, and confidence to grow into the woman I am today.

My husband shaped my self-image first and in the deepest way. Before our relationship, I struggled with accepting my skin color. I spent years trying to avoid the sun because I believed being darker made me less beautiful. Through his consistent love and affirmation, that belief began to change. He reminded me daily how beautiful my skin is and how much he loves me exactly as I am. Being married to a Caucasian man and hearing those words regularly helped heal insecurities I didn’t even realize I was carrying. His support gave me the freedom to embrace the skin I’m in, to stop hiding, and to truly love myself without apology.

My business mentors also played a major role in shaping how I see myself. They challenged me to step into my confidence, recognize my value, and believe in my ability to lead, grow, and make an impact. Together, these relationships helped me build confidence from the inside out — teaching me self-worth, self-belief, and the courage to fully show up as myself in every area of my life.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, there have been several moments throughout my career and even in my marriage when I almost gave up. If I’m being completely honest, when things felt overwhelming and I couldn’t see physical change happening, it was easy to believe that nothing was working. But over time, I learned that just because I couldn’t see movement didn’t mean God wasn’t working. Growth and breakthrough don’t happen on our timeline — they happen on God’s time, and trusting that process was something I had to learn.

What kept me going was the realization that if I wanted things to change, I had to change. If I wanted things to get better, I had to get better. Instead of focusing on everything around me that wasn’t working, I dug deep and began working on the things I could control — my mindset, my faith, my discipline, and my actions.

I also held onto something a mentor once told me: most people give up right before their breakthrough. I didn’t want that to be my story. I wanted to change the direction of my life and become a testimony for others. If I quit, there would be no testimony — and that reminder gave me the strength to keep going even when it was hard.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely. The public version of me is the real me. I show up as the same person wherever I go because it takes far too much energy to change who you are depending on the room you’re in. If you like me, you like me — and if you don’t, that’s okay too. Not everyone liked Jesus, so I’m at peace with the fact that I won’t be for everyone.

I believe in staying true to myself, and I’ve always lived that way. Authenticity matters more to me than approval. Of course, there are things I do that bug my husband from time to time, but even then, I don’t try to change who I am at my core because this is genuinely me. I’d rather be real than be liked for something I’m not.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
If I knew I only had 10 years left, I would stop worrying so much about keeping my house perfectly clean. I can be a bit of a clean freak, and with three small kids, that often means spending a lot of time organizing, tidying, and stressing over dishes and messes. My husband reminds me often that the house can wait — that the dishes will always be there — but the moments with him and our kids won’t.

I’ve realized that in the end, the cleaning won’t matter. What will matter is the time I spent being present with the people I love. If I truly had a limited amount of time, I would choose connection over perfection and memories over a spotless house.
