Exploring Life & Business with Ashley DeProspero of Black Willow Boutique

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley DeProspero.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up a “retail enthusiast,” loving every aspect of the retail world. My natural draw to people, my love of studying trends, and my affinity for outfit-styling made my career path into fashion very natural. My background includes managing small boutiques and corporate retail chains before moving into a sourcing position for a large corporate retailer. I moved to Prosper with my husband and two kids in 2020, just before the pandemic hit. When we began adjusting to all of the changes COVID-19 brought with it, I felt called to transition out of the huge corporate world and into a my small community that we have loved so much. Opening a business during a pandemic has come with its fair share of challenges, but we have been so incredibly blessed by the unbelievable support of our local community. First-time customers have become good friends, local business owners have become collaborators, and close friends have become helpers, handimen and models. I LOVE this community!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Black Willow Boutique opened its doors in October of 2020 – amidst a global pandemic and a lot of financial uncertainty. Talk about a challenge! But while there have been (and continue to be) hurdles for us to overcome and obstacles we couldn’t have anticipated, we have been bolstered by the most incredible community we can imagine. My heart is nothing but grateful!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am the co-owner and founder of Black Willow Boutique in Prosper, TX.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
One of my favorite things about owning a small business is the ability to collaborate with the people we want to support! We do a lot of special events – everything from birthday parties to fundraisers for our local schools to Gal-entine’s Day parties – and LOVE to bring in other small business owners. We’ve worked with bakeries, flower shops, and A/C companies (among others), and have even more plans to do more in the future. If you’re local to North Dallas and are interested in supporting us, we’d love to meet you at our retail storefront! If you live further, we are available 24/7 on our website.
