Exploring Life & Business with Abril Moreno of Hummingbird Hair Lounge

Today we’d like to introduce you to Abril Moreno.

Hi Abril , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve always been interested in beauty. A lot of it started with my grandmother. She always had her hair done, cute clothes on and make up done. I grew up bonding with her because of it. Eventually I went to cosmetology school, with the intention of focusing on makeup. Within that I fell in love with doing hair. I realized I loved connecting with people and as my skill grew, enjoyed making them feel good as well. After school I did a year long apprentice program with L+R Pro and they helped me realize the hard work needed to dream big in the industry.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been a bumpy road for sure. As a stylist, sometimes you need to hop between multiple places to find your salon home. When I landed in my last open concept salon, I had maybe a handful of clients that followed me and I needed to build from the ground up again. That was really hard. I had a lot of moments where I doubted myself and wondered if I was doing the right thing long term. I also battled with the idea that I don’t look like other luxury stylists and if there is a space for me at all. Within all that, I lost my grandmother in April of 2025. Grieving her loss made it really hard to want to show up and work. I still did because no one could do it for me but I was more just going through the motions. I can say now that the road has smoothed over. August 9th 2026 I opened my salon suite Hummingbird Hair lounge and it was been received so well and I couldn’t be more grateful.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Hummingbird Hair Lounge ?
I am the owner of Hummingbird Hair Lounge in Fort Worth Tx. It is a salon suite offering women’s cut and colors. I like to say I am a hair visionary. You tell me what you want and I do my best to make it happen. Recently I have been getting some attention over my layered cuts. Color wise I love doing everything, from grey coverage to grey blending. As well as all over one colors to fun fantasy colors. I’ve also been known to do beautiful blended highlights as well. I believe what sets me apart is my commitment to a relaxing, comfortable, fun client experience. I’ve always felt getting your hair done is something you should look forward to not a chore. I am proud to provide a space where you come to relax, unwind and leave feeling more beautiful than you were before. That is where the “hair lounge” comes from. I named it with Hummingbird to honor my grandmother who passed. And also celebrate her sacrifice to immigrate here from Mexico to provide a better life for future generations. I am proof of that. I am proud to be a first generation Latina owned business. The first to do it on that side of my family.

What does success mean to you?
Success for me is being able to see the fruits of my labor. To be living in the dreams I once thought to be so far away. As a business you’re always trying to improve, always trying to get yourself out there more. Once in a while you have to take a step back and realize how far you’ve come and be so grateful you pushed though those trials and tribulations. Those moments define success for me.
