Today we’d like to introduce you to Addie Sellers.
Hi Addie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I first fell in love with smocked children’s clothing in 2019 when I was expecting my daughter. I really loved the idea of dressing her in timeless, classic pieces that I could save for future children. After she was born, I felt an itch to get in touch with my creative roots, design something of my own, but still have the opportunity to involve my daughter. As my maternity leave approached its end and I prepared to return to work as a pharmacist, I brought this crazy idea to my husband. When I told him I wanted to start a line of smocked children’s clothing, he was fully supportive and encouraged me to go for it. Ruth and Ralph launched in March of 2020, completely unaware of all that would unfold that year. Thankfully the community of mothers are strong supporters! I discovered that many others share my love for classic children’s clothing and their support has truly catapulted us into a full-blown business in just two short years.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We launched Ruth and Ralph at the beginning of the pandemic completely unaware of the supply chain issues we would face down the road. Shipping delays have been our number one challenge and easily the most frustrating. I always strive to be as transparent as possible with our customers and boutiques by over-communicating every delay along the way. Despite these challenging times, our customers have been very understanding. We wouldn’t be where we are today without the loyal support of our customers, friends, and family!

We specialize in hand-smocked children’s clothing, focusing on attention to detail and high-quality fabrics. We strive to create beautiful pieces, perfect for everyday wear and special occasions, that can be passed down for generations to come. Our original design was blue and white smocked ginger jars which popularized us to all you grand millennials! Our collegiate outfits are one of our most sought-after collections and we’re expanding it this year to include additional universities. People are very passionate about their alma maters! Moreover, I believe what truly sets Ruth and Ralph apart are the relationships we foster with our customers. I approach each customer interaction with the intent to create a positive exchange. I want every customer to feel cared for, respected, and happy when they make their purchase. I love the community that Ruth and Ralph has built and I especially love hearing from people, whether through email, Instagram, our website, or out in the community!
