Hi Akeia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My passion for the hair industry was intentional, and I have my mom to thank for it. As a little girl, I had a lot of hair — and with a mom who didn’t have a knack for doing it, I spent a lot of time at the beauty shop. The young ladies who styled my hair always left me feeling so sassy, like a little princess. I would sit completely still just to get those cute hairstyles that made me feel beautiful. As a reward for good behavior, they’d let me play with the mannequins — doing their hair while mine got done. That’s where it all started.
Years went by, and when I had my own daughter and did her hair, she told me she felt like a princess too. In that moment, I knew this was something I was meant to help other women experience.
I enrolled in cosmetology school and hit the ground running, determined to make my mark on the industry — and I haven’t looked back since. I created Hair From Scratch with a meaning behind the name: taking a little bit of talent, a sprinkle of skill, and building something beautiful from nothing. Whether it came from cosmetology school, hair classes, or even YouTube, every bit of knowledge became a building block.
I love helping women restore their confidence, because the little girl and the grown woman inside all of us deserves to feel seen, feel glamorous, and show up as her most beautiful self!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
With 8 years under my belt as an entrepreneur, smooth roads have not been within my pathway, at least not consistently. Things such as systems, location, day to day operations, and balancing motherhood, has had its challenges as a business owner. For example, I was with my salon family for years working in a salon and fast forward, we had less than one week to disperse and find new salon homes. I had clients who were booked in advance, wigs that needed to be worked on, and didn’t want to rush into finding a new work location. I worked out of my mom’s garage for about 3 weeks in the Texas summer heat before finding a salon – one that I could call my own. It is 1300 square feet and it was so worth the wait. This is one of many examples I can give but staying grounded is what helps me through it all and remembering my “why”.

Hair From Scratch is not your average wig business. We create custom units built around each customer’s unique needs and desires. When a client shares their inspiration and vision for how they want their unit to look, we bring it to life — from scratch. Every wig is handcrafted using a sewing machine and the client’s exact head measurements, ensuring a flawless, personalized fit. We source top-quality extensions for every unit, because longevity and integrity of the finished look are our top priorities.

What I’m most proud of, brand-wise, is the consistency we’ve maintained over the years. When people speak about Hair From Scratch, it comes from a place of genuine satisfaction — knowing they were truly taken care of.
At Hair From Scratch, we do all things wigs — custom creations, revamps, and custom color. We also offer hair care services for your natural hair, including shampoo and blowdry, treatments, trims, and braid downs. In-person and virtual consultations are available for anyone interested in getting a wig made or serviced, or who simply wants to ask questions and speak with a professional.

Most people wouldn’t guess that I’m a major introvert. Running a client-facing luxury brand means I’m constantly meeting people’s energy and creating a warm environment where clients feel comfortable opening up about their hair journey and goals.
I do service more wigs than people, and I love it that way — it gives me pockets of time to be true to myself and focus intentionally on crafting units that women love!
