Hi Alberto, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Alberto Placencia, but friends and family know me as Beto. I’m the proud owner of La Familia Bartending.
I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas — Oak Cliff, to be exact. I’m one of six siblings, raised by my incredible first-generation Mexican mother, who did it all as a single parent. Growing up in a two-bedroom, 884-square-foot home with six siblings brought us closer together. We didn’t have much, but we had each other — and that’s what mattered most.
Watching my mother work tirelessly cleaning homes to keep food on the table inspired me to one day build something of my own and create a better life for us. Right out of high school, I started my first business hanging Christmas lights. That experience lit a fire in me — it showed me that I could lead, plan, and execute projects with confidence. But even then, something was missing — the passion.
One day, a coworker invited me, last minute, to help bartend a quinceañera. I had never done it before, but I was eager for a new challenge. It was a bit chaotic learning on the fly at a 200-guest event, but I thrived in the fast-paced environment. I fell in love with hospitality — taking care of people, connecting with them, and seeing their faces light up after trying a cocktail I created.
I went on to work with Alpha BarCo. and Allure & Alchemy, two respected mobile bar companies, learning everything I could until I felt ready to build something of my own. When it came time to choose a name, I wanted something that reflected who I am and what I value most — my family. And that’s how La Familia Bartending was born.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Nothing is ever perfect, and I’m grateful for the challenges I’ve faced — they’ve shaped me into the business owner I am today. I didn’t come from money, so in the early years of my business, I worked a full-time job while raising two children to keep our household steady. None of it would have been possible without the love and support of my beautiful wife, Elisa.
Standing out in this industry hasn’t always been easy. To build my name and create community connections, I teamed up with a friend in the industry, Stylebender Bartender to host family-friendly events — the most notable being Halloween Town, which was featured in the Dallas Observer. We hosted the event annually for three years, offering free attractions, live music, and local vendors.
Despite facing challenges like bad weather and limited space, we pushed through every obstacle — proving that with preparation, hard work, and dedication, anything is possible.
