Today we’d like to introduce you to Aleshia Ahmadi
Hi Aleshia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
It all started in high school when I basically made yearbook class my full-time job—snapping pics, running around events, and making everyone feel like a celeb. I almost went to school for photography, but my parents hit me with the “get a real job” talk. So, I did…until Christmas morning when a shiny Canon Rebel landed in my hands. Suddenly, my dog was in an impromptu photoshoot, my town (White Rock, BC Canada) became a backdrop, and by January, I was back in class—this time, learning the art of photography for real! I loved it (Shout out Vanarts!)
I started shooting anything and everything for next to nothing, building my portfolio and learning the art of making clients comfortable. I mastered selling myself and got over the nerves of asking for portraits. For two years, I honed my skills as a second shooter with an amazing Vancouver photographer.
Once I felt confident in both my photography and client interactions, Her Story Portraits was born. I chose the name because I believe photography is more than just capturing a beautiful image—it’s about preserving memories and telling meaningful stories. As a photographer, I see myself as both a storyteller and a keeper of moments.
I’ve captured memories from Vancouver to San Francisco, Tucson to Phoenix, and now the DFW area. It’s been an incredible adventure that fills my soul—I truly can’t imagine doing anything else!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey hasn’t been easy—it’s taken dedication, grit, and a whole lot of hustle to get my business off the ground. Like most self-employed folks know, working for yourself is no walk in the park. In the beginning, you wear all the hats until you find your rhythm and can start outsourcing. But every challenge has been worth it!
One of my biggest challenges was learning how to market myself in a world that’s constantly evolving. Just when I felt like I had mastered one strategy, the landscape would shift again. Back in Canada, booking clients came naturally—having grown up there, word-of-mouth kept my calendar full. I still believe word-of-mouth is the most powerful way to grow a business, but with multiple moves across countries and states from 2022 to 2025, I had to tackle the challenge of online marketing head-on.
To tackle this challenge, I joined Sue Bryce Education, attended countless conferences, and dove deep into learning—fueling my passion while sharpening my marketing skills along the way.
We’ve been impressed with Her Story Portraits LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Her Story Portraits is all about capturing life’s most beautiful and meaningful moments. I specialize in maternity, motherhood, family, senior, and wedding photography—creating timeless, emotive images that tell a story.
What makes me different?
I create a space where clients feel comfortable, confident, and truly seen. I know being in front of the camera can feel intimidating, so I take a personalized approach—guiding, encouraging, and making sure every session reflects the unique essence of the people I photograph. My goal is to create a relaxed, safe space where you can be yourself, and that authenticity shines through in every image.
One of the things I’m most proud of is building a brand that goes beyond photography—it’s about connection, empowerment, and storytelling. In 2025, I’m expanding my offerings with more stylized sessions that let clients express their personalities and a minimalist at-home studio for editorial-style portraits of motherhood and maternity.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I moved to the DFW area about a year ago, and it’s been such an amazing experience! The community here is so family-oriented, and I’ve fallen in love with the wildflowers in the spring and the sunny weather that seems to always be around. The old brick homes, historic downtown, and wide-open sky give it a unique charm. Fort Worth, in particular, feels like stepping back in time, and the farms remind me of my childhood on a small hobby farm in Canada. Honestly, there’s not much I dislike, though I do miss the mountains back home, and the weather can get a little intense at times.
