Today we’d like to introduce you to Allan Abramowitz.
Hi Allan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have been working in the DIamond and Jewelry industry for over 40 years, my career began in New York City.
I established my company Odyssey jewelers in 1978. My company was a manufacturer and importer a find Jewelry in the diamond District of New York City. I would produced a custom designs as well as offer an exclusive line of jewelry I imported from overseas. With demand increasing for fine gemstones for my clients I attended a graduated from the GIA Gemological Institute of America and received my GG graduate gemologist degree in 1988 that enable me to navigate the DIamond business, I now could do my business worldwide. I was a member of the Diamond Dealers Club, the exchange for Diamonds, in New York City in the US. I left the industry to pursue a career in culinary arts. I attended the French culinary Institute in 1997 for training as a classical French chef. I worked in New York City, various restaurants and catering businesses for a number of years ultimately leaving the kitchen for management opportunities with Hilton hotels and Ritz Carlton as a catering manager, ultimately Director. Through a twist of fate, I left the culinary industry I was offered a position back in Jewelry with Helzberg Diamonds as a manager in Jacksonville, Florida. I managed stores for Helzberg diamonds for three years in Florida, New York and ultimately Dallas, Texas. Settling in Dallas, Texas as my new home. I worked for a number of companies for the past 20 years, I have been for the past 8 years a Diamond consultant and appraiser with Diamonds direct in Dallas, Texas.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Life is never smooth challenges raising a family, divorce, financial pressures always make it a struggle. I was able to change directions and evolve in the circumstances of life. I’ve always loved interaction with people in challenging situations, jewelry industry, as well as my culinary experience, enabled me to learn a great deal about human nature changing careers in the middle of my life, was not an easy transition, but made me stronger ultimately returning to what I truly loved.

Diamond Direct originated in 1956 in Tel Aviv Israel. Was diamond cutter. for many years.and they distributed and sold cut and polished Diamonds, till 1995 . They opened their first store selling directly to the public in Charlotte, North Carolina hence the name Diamonds Direct. This revolutionized, the industry, a diamond cutter had never sold directly to the public, eliminating the middleman this was revolutionary. 36 stores later Diamond Direct is a major force in the United States with locations all over the US. The company was acquired by Signet a publicly traded company.
My expertise is in Diamonds, and I advise and consult with clients making purchases to find jewelry and gemstones. As well, I appraise for insurance purposes, protecting my clients against loss and enabling them to be properly covered.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I’ve used Facebook Instagram and TikTok to communicate and expand my client base. I’m hoping my book will give me another avenue of exposure and give my clients an insight of what I can do for them.
