Exploring Life & Business with Alyona Gibert of Wonder Events

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyona Gibert.

Hi Alyona, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Some people are born with a gift for numbers, others with a gift for words. For me, it has always been about joy. My friends back in Russia used to call me “the holiday person” — the one who could turn an ordinary day into a little celebration.

I built a career in one of the largest banks in Russia, a serious corporate world with rules and hierarchy. Yet even there, I found ways to organize company parties and team events — because celebration was in my nature. It was my way to connect, to make people smile.

When I moved to Texas, life was not easy. Immigration is always a challenge, and the biggest obstacle for me was language. I dreamed of becoming an event planner, but I knew my English wasn’t strong enough for that role. So I asked myself: what if I don’t have to plan the entire party? What if I can be the magic inside it?

That’s how WonderEvents was born. I took a professional face-painting course, bought my first set of brushes and paints, and decided to practice in the nearest park. My very first “clients” were two little boys. I was nervous — would they like it? But the moment their faces lit up with pure joy, I knew I had found my path.

Children are incredible. They don’t fake emotions, they don’t pretend. If they’re happy, you see it instantly. And when I paint their faces, I don’t just draw — I turn them into what they dream of becoming. Adults chase “big eyes, small nose, perfect skin.” But kids? They want to be invisible, to grow a mermaid’s tail, to throw Spider-Man’s web, to move faster than light. With my paints, I make those wishes real — at least for one afternoon.

Today, WonderEvents brings face painting, balloon twisting, bubble shows, and creative workshops to families across DFW. I arrive with my “magic suitcase,” and no matter if it’s a backyard birthday, a school fair, or a community festival, I turn the space into a world of wonder.

My dream is to grow WonderEvents into something even bigger: a team of performers, artists, and animators who can create unforgettable city-wide festivals. I want families to hear our name and instantly think of magic, joy, and creativity.

Because at the end of the day, it’s not just about paint or balloons. It’s about memories, about those shining eyes, about making kids believe — for a little while — that anything is possible.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Everything was new for me — a new language, new platforms like GigSalad and Thumbtack, learning how to work with them, figuring out apps for payments, and understanding the U.S. tax and legal system. At first, it felt overwhelming: I wasn’t just learning how to paint faces, I was learning how to build a business from scratch in a country where all the rules were different. But each step — from setting up my first online profile to receiving my first official payment — gave me more confidence.

We’ve been impressed with Wonder Events, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Story of WonderEvents

WonderEvents was born not only out of creativity, but out of friendship and belief in magic.

I believed that even if I wasn’t ready to be a full event planner because of the language barrier, I could still be part of the celebration itself.

But a dream needs support to grow. I was lucky to have incredible friends around me. One of my close friends, a marketing specialist, helped me create my website and set up my Google Business profile. She believed in me, and thanks to her, WonderEvents quickly became visible online. That’s probably how you found me today — because of her support and the way my site was indexed.

Another friend, who works in event décor, supported me with the everyday side of business. She sat down with me to create my very first invoice and my first commercial proposal, patiently pointing out the details I shouldn’t miss. She guided me through those little but crucial steps that helped me look professional from the very beginning. Beyond that, she was always ready to share advice and lighten the routine. To this day, I am deeply grateful to these women who stood by me when WonderEvents was only an idea.

As for the name — it comes from my love for Alice in Wonderland. I believe in kindness, in magic, and in the power of imagination. Alice became part of our logo and a symbol of what WonderEvents stands for: a place where kids can step into their own fantasy worlds. Whether it’s becoming a mermaid, a superhero, or a character from a fairy tale, I help them live that dream, even if just for a moment.

Because at the heart of it all, WonderEvents isn’t just about entertainment. It’s about connection, creativity, and proving that magic — just like kindness — is very real.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Most people see me as the ‘magic suitcase lady’ who brings colors, bubbles, and fun. What they might not know is that I once worked in one of the largest banks in Russia, in a very serious corporate world. Organizing children’s parties in Texas may seem like the opposite of finance, but in a way, it’s the same skills — attention to detail, structure, and responsibility — just applied to joy instead of numbers. People are often surprised that behind the glitter and paint there’s also a lot of discipline and planning. And maybe that’s my secret: I mix creativity with structure, so the magic always runs smoothly.
