Exploring Life & Business with Austin Lewis of Elite Performance Chiropractic

Today we’d like to introduce you to Austin Lewis

Hi Austin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been drawn to sports and human performance. From around the age of 13, I started focusing on optimizing my health, which naturally guided me toward a career in the medical field. Initially, I imagined myself as a surgeon.

While in undergrad, I worked as a Nurse Tech on the post-surgical floor at UMC Hospital in Lubbock, Texas. It was during that time that I realized my interest was more aligned with preventing health issues than addressing them surgically. I wanted to work directly with individuals, particularly athletes, to help improve their performance and overall well-being.

My interest in chiropractic care deepened after experiencing a significant spinal injury in high school. Chiropractic treatment played a key role in my recovery, and it introduced me to an area of healthcare that resonated with me. During undergrad, I looked up to Dr. Jordan Shallow, a chiropractor whose ability to break down complex biomechanics and apply them to real-world training greatly influenced my perspective on the field.

Chiropractic care, as I see it, isn’t just about adjustments—it involves understanding and addressing the entire neuro-musculoskeletal system. This perspective led me to Parker University, where I pursued a program that balances chiropractic philosophy with a focus on sports performance. Through the Sports Performance Program, I gained experience in various soft tissue techniques and functional exercises.

I completed my internship at Elite Performance Chiropractic in McKinney, Texas, a clinic with a diverse athletic clientele and an innovative approach to care. It quickly became clear this was where I wanted to build my career. In 2021, I joined the team as an Associate and have been dedicated to helping athletes perform at their best ever since.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Honestly, my journey has felt very organic, and I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve been blessed with along the way. I’ve always believed that if something is meant to happen, it will fall into place without being forced. That belief has guided many of the key decisions in my life—from choosing to become a chiropractor to moving to Dallas to attend Parker University. Joining Elite Performance Chiropractic and working with athletes of varying levels and specialties have all come together seamlessly, almost as if it was meant to be.

As you know, we’re big fans of Elite Performance Chiropractic. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At [Elite Performance Chiropractic], we treat everyone, but we have a strong focus on athletes—both professionals and amateurs. We use a variety of techniques to go beyond the usual adjustments, like myofascial release, dry needling, extracorporeal shockwave therapy, therapeutic exercises, and more.

What really makes us different from other chiropractic offices is that we don’t stick to rigid treatment plans. We adjust our approach based on what each patient and their injury needs. It’s personalized care that works.

What I’m most proud of, though, is the environment we’ve created for our patients. Treating sports injuries often means patients spend more time in our clinic, so we work hard to make every visit a positive experience. That friendly and welcoming vibe has been a huge part of why we’ve been voted “Best of McKinney” for nine years in a row.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
I find joy in a variety of things. Exercise, for one, is something I deeply enjoy—not just for its physical health benefits, but also for how it makes me feel mentally and emotionally. My wife and I also love growing houseplants. There’s something incredibly rewarding about creating the right conditions for them to thrive. In many ways, it mirrors what I strive to do for my patients: provide the right environment and care to help their bodies thrive.

Another thing that brings me a lot of fulfillment is making a meaningful difference in someone’s life. It’s not always about reducing their pain—it’s often about being someone they can talk to, whether it’s sharing their day or what’s bothering them. Sometimes, it’s just about offering reassurance that everything is going to be okay. Knowing I’ve been able to positively impact someone’s life, even in small ways, is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.
