Exploring Life & Business with Carlos Meza of Tacos El Jefe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlos Meza.

Hi Carlos, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Title: The Journey to Building Tacos El Jefe: A Young Entrepreneur With A Dream

Introduction:

Being an entrepreneur is challenging but fulfilling. I took over Tacos El Jefe in Irving, Texas, a taco shop with a long-standing tradition of serving authentic Mexican food, back in December of 2022. My journey in the food industry started when I was a young kid. I grew up in a family that loved to cook. My grandma made the best tacos, and her secret ingredient was love. Seeing how much joy food brought people, I knew that it was something I was passionate about.

My taco shop, Tacos El Jefe, is a place where authenticity meets community. I have been lucky enough to bring the taco shop back to life with the help of my family and friends. Our mission is to serve delicious, authentic Mexican food inspired directly from the heart of the city of Mexico.

Body:

Tacos El Jefe was not in the greatest shape when I took over. The shop was slowly falling off the face of the community, and the restaurant was in need of change. But I saw the potential, and I knew that with a little bit of work, Tacos El Jefe could be a great place. I started by cleaning up the restaurant. I wanted the customers to come in and feel welcomed and comfortable, just like they would in their own home. I also started working on the menu. I wanted to serve authentic Mexican food that would make my grandma proud. I spent countless hours in the kitchen, perfecting each dish until it was just right.

After months of hard work, I started to see the results. People were coming in, and they loved the food. They appreciated the authenticity and the effort that we put into each dish. The taco shop became a place where people would come together, share stories, and enjoy a great meal.

As the word started to spread, we started getting more customers. We started getting calls for catering and events. People loved our food, and they wanted it at their parties. This was when I realized that my dream was turning into a reality.

Conclusion:

Building Tacos El Jefe has been a journey filled with challenges and rewards. I have been inspired by my family and friends who supported me along the way. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the community, and I will continue to work hard to provide delicious, authentic Mexican food. My journey is far from over, and I am excited to see where it takes me. If you are ever in Irving, Texas, please stop by Tacos El Jefe and say hello. I would love to share my passion for food with you.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being 19 and running a company has had its fair share of obstacles and challenges. Ever since I graduated from high school, I have been passionate about entrepreneurship, but it comes at a price. I have had to sacrifice and prioritize my business and learning in order to be able to apply what I learn into growing my business. My biggest obstacle was finding a way to manage school, a position as a general contractor in my family company, and being able to manage and run my taco shop Tacos El Jefe all at once. Although it is a very demanding lifestyle, in the end, it is all worth it regardless of all the negativity thrown at me. Failure is a big part of growth, and there has been no lack of it. Being able to manage more is what comes from that.

We’ve been impressed with Tacos El Jefe, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Tacos El Jefe brings Mexico and its delights to the people of the DFW community. We strive to be a part and help grow the community and make sure everyone gets to enjoy every moment of it. We host events, sponsor, go vendor, and cater. We offer some of the best and unique foods here in Irving and welcome everyone to our one-of-a-kind environment that has never been seen before. Our tacos are our specialty, and make sure every bite is full of flavor. We love being able to participate in some of the best experiences we have ever had.

What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is making my dream a reality. My dream to make Tacos El Jefe a big part of the DFW community and bring tacos to everyone in the metroplex. As of right now, were only a location in Irving, but we hope to expand and be able to host more events for our community and be able to show the people what real Mexican food is.
