Today we’d like to introduce you to Chad Hoberer.
Hi Chad, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m a Dallas-based artist who has been painting for over half of my life. With a BFA in animation, I’m no stranger to figure and form and is often drawn to the chaotic beauty of nature. When I’m not at home painting in my studio, I’m busy creating for the clients of my scenic fabrication business, C. Scenic.
I’ve got over twenty years of professional experience as an artist, painter, and designer, studying and working in the Peter Wolf Shop for the “old world” scenic training in my late teens and continued to learn from some of Dallas’ most talented artists and painters from all over the world. While I started my career as an animator, I’ve always returned to my love for painting and I have been recognized as one of the most well-respected names in the local industry, having worked as a Production Designer, Art Director, as well as a Scenic Painter on countless projects in television, film, and more.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I wouldn’t say it’s been a smooth road. In order to gain a reputation in this city, you have to really drag your heels for a long time. I think a lot of people think art is super fun until they realize that it means doing the same monotonous thing over and over, sometimes for months on end.
As you know, we’re big fans of C. Scenic. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
In 2015, I, along with my wife and partner-in-crime Chelsea, as well as our longtime friend and collaborator Paul Warmus, started C. Scenic with the expertise and knowledge we had gained from working in scenic shops since the early 90s to knock out the middle-man involved with being independent freelancers.
Since then, C. Scenic has designed, built, and installed scenery and decor for municipalities, national event roadshows, TV/film studios, experiential marketers, botanical gardens, zoos, and amusement parks. Among many others.
C. Scenic is committed to creating possibilities through quality service. Our mission is to make Cool things with Cool people, all with a capital C. We are dedicated to the arts and providing the artists on our team with a safe and creative environment in an industry which is often unstable, and by doing so, C. Scenic is able to create the best caliber work for our clients.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Long after people have forgotten what you’ve done or what you’ve said, they will always remember how you made them feel.
