Exploring Life & Business with Claudia Ocampo of Perennial studios

Today we’d like to introduce you to Claudia Ocampo.

Hi Claudia , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I just 18 years old I began working alongside my father in his subcontracting business. What started as learning the ropes quickly turned into leadership, I stepped in, expanded the operations and grew it to work with multiple contractors. Along the way I built strong, lasting relationships, one of which became especially pivotal. One of our contractor partners became a mentor, and when she retired, she trust me with her business and sold it to me.

In 2019 I officially took the reins and began managing and growing the Flooring company, that serves both residential and commercial projects. Over the next seven years, we weathered challenges, including Covid, while continuing to expand our commercial sector, during that time I realize something important; while I loved the technical side of the business I was deeply drawn to the beauty of interiors.

That realization led me back to school. As a mother of three, juggling full-time coursework, a full-time business, and full-time motherhood was no small feet, but by the grace of God, I was able to push through and graduate from a masters level interior design program. Today I’m at a point in my journey where I am evolving my Flooring store into a full scale interior design studio and finishes gallery. I recently closed down the MB CARPETS 1400 square-foot showroom in Arlington and stepped into a bold new chapter with a 5000 square foot studio gallery in the Dallas design District. It feels like a natural next step. One that fully reflects where I’ve been and where I’m headed.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Smooth sailing? Never. After leaving college and diving head first into the business, everything was learned hands-on. Often through trial, error, and hard earned lessons. As a new business owner, I didn’t have access to loans, credit, lines, or investors, so every step forward was funded out of pocket. That forced me to be resourceful, disciplined, and very intentional with every decision.

One of our biggest early challenges was visibility, figuring out how to market ourselves and get in front of the right clients not just any clients. Then Covid hit and like many small businesses, we were tested in ways. We never anticipated. Foot traffic slowed dramatically, and we had to pivot fast. We reworked our entire sales model, shifted to in-home consultations, and learned how to meet clients with they were literally and emotionally. Those challenges reshape the business, strengthen our systems, and ultimately made us more adaptable, resilient, and client focused.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Perennial studios ?
Perennial Studios is a full service interior design studio and flooring finishes gallery created for busy families and professionals who want a beautiful, elevated space without the stress of managing every detail themselves. We specialize in bridging the gap between design, material procurement, and execution. Offering a truly seamless experience from concept to completion.

What sets us apart is. We are One studio. One point of contact. One elevated experience.

With deep roots in construction and flooring, we understand how spaces are put together, not just how they look. That technical expertise allows us to design with intention, manage projects effectively and eliminate the disconnect that often happens between designers and contractors. Clients come to us because they want one trusted team, one clear process, and a final result that feels thoughtful, timeless, and uniquely theirs.

We are known for creating warm, layered interiors that balance modern sophistication with character and soul. Our studio operates as a curated gallery of finishes like flooring, tile, stone, hardwood, rugs, and hardware.

Paired with full interior design services for residential, commercial and hospitality projects. Everything is thoughtfully selected, streamlined, and handled under one roof.

Brand wise, I’m most proud of the experience we are creating. Our clients are often in seasons of growth, growing families, expanding business, or major life transitions, and they need a partner who could take the weight of decision making, off their shoulders. We handle sourcing, coordination, project flow, and execution, so our clients can focus on their lives and not the renovation.

But I want readers to know most is this: perennial studios was built to simplify the process while elevating the outcome. We believe luxury isn’t about excess. It’s about clarity, craftsmanship, and Care. Our goal is to create spaces that feel enduring functional, and deeply personal long after the project is complete.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Above all, Jesus Christ deserves the credit. His guidance, grace and strength have carried me through every season. Especially the challenging ones and have made everything I’ve built possible.

From there, my team has been instrumental in bringing the vision to life. From my studio manager, and project managers to our installers, each person plays a vital role. Their work ethic, attention to detail, and commitment to craftsmanship are the foundations of our success. I’m incredibly proud of the culture we’ve built. One rooted and trust excellence and shared purpose.

Lastly, our clients deserve immense credit. They’re trusting us often during major life transitions is not something I take lightly. They invite us into their homes, their vision, their budget, and their hopes, and that trust is the driving force behind everything we do
