Exploring Life & Business with Emily & Olivia Henderson & Boyd of Always Booked

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily & Olivia Henderson & Boyd

Hi Emily & Olivia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
We are both Texas transplants and grew up in small towns prior to finding our way to the DFW area. Individually we were already avid readers and active members of the book community before finding each other. When we finally connected and realized we shared similar dreams, the idea for Always Booked came to life naturally.

We’re thrilled to see the resurgence of reading, book collecting, and the revival of indie bookstores. The book community is truly special—not just as a place to read, but to dream, create, and be ourselves among others who feel the same way.

Spending time together often means hours of talking about books, so turning that passion into a company felt like a perfect next step. As Always Booked grows, we hear from so many people who long for a friend group or book club like ours to share their love of reading. That’s exactly what we want to create—a welcoming space where people can connect over a shared love of stories.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
While we’ve been fortunate to avoid any major roadblocks (knock on wood), starting a business is not easy. It takes a lot of work, dedication, and clear communication from all of us. Navigating the logistics of launching and managing everything efficiently is a process, and there has definitely been a learning curve as we build and grow.

One of the keys to our smooth process is that we understand each other’s strengths and share a unified long-term vision. Dani and Hannah, who are also on our podcast, bring such unique and fresh perspectives that we deeply value.

Our biggest challenge has been balancing our desire to focus on this business while maintaining our full-time jobs. Scheduling time can be tricky, but we’ve learned to adapt and remain flexible, finding ways to stay organized amidst our busy schedules.

We also have a large community supporting our dreams, which makes all the difference.

As you know, we’re big fans of Always Booked. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Always Booked was created from a shared passion for stories and the belief that they’re even better when experienced together. Our goal is to create a vibrant, welcoming community where readers can connect. While we’re only a couple months into this journey, we have some exciting plans that we believe the book community will love as well.

Right now, we release podcast episodes every other Thursday, alternating between deep dives into Sarah J. Mass’s universe and books chosen by our real-life book club. Beyond the podcast, we’re thrilled to be launching a blog soon where we’ll be sharing book recommendations, providing guides on hosting book clubs, and much more. We also just completed a successful trial run of an immersive, luxury book retreat we plan to offer next year.

What we believe sets us apart is our focus on building a genuine community. Whether it’s through our podcast discussions, in-person events, or chatting with our followers on social media, our priority is creating meaningful connections between readers. We want people to feel like they’re part of something special—because they are!

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
Always Booked operates as a remote business, but everyone involved is located in the DFW area. We love that it is a hub for creativity and we have noticed an exciting rise in bookish gatherings and literary events.

We wish there was more fluctuation in the seasons and that they lasted longer (except summer). We really would thrive around a camp fire in the autumn chill. Our plan is to bring that seasonal magic to our book retreats!
