Today we’d like to introduce you to Hector Reyes.
Hi Hector, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
It was not long after starting basics in college when I realized that I wanted to help people in the Healthcare arena. Initially, I thought I wanted to go into medicine and become a D.O. (doctor of osteopathic medicine). I was going to UNT-Denton at the time and had my eyes on UNT Health Science Center in Ft Worth for medical school. While on the path towards medical school, I was asked by a collegiate soccer coach friend if I had thought of becoming a chiropractor? I did not know anything about what a chiropractor was or did. So I did what most people do to learn something new – Google and YouTube. I loved the idea of working with my hands and healing people naturally! So I decided to take a tour of Parker University in Dallas (which was only 30 mins from my home). I liked what they had to offer, so I switched gears and was on my way to chiropractic school! At Parker University I completed my BS in Anatomy and BS in Health & Wellness, and in Dec. 2016 I walked the stage with my doctorate of chiropractic (DC).
I did not open my own practice right out of the gate, but instead, I took an opportunity to work as an on-site corporate wellness provider for the DFW region. This was such a great opportunity to travel to different facilities and work with people ranging from corporate executives to police officers, including Dallas PD, Ft Worth PD, and Mesquite PD.
After a few years in corporate wellness, I knew it was time to bring a brick-and-mortar location to the city of Denton, where I went to school and where I was raising my family. We opened up The MSK Room (MSK meaning musculoskeletal) in October 2020. We have really hit the ground running and have grown very rapidly in the last 8 months. In less than a year, we have been nominated and now voted to be one of the Best in Denton 2021 in the Chiropractic category! Winner to be announced in late August – we feel we have a strong chance to win it all. Stay tuned for that…

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not the smoothest road by any means. I was 23 when I decided I was going to start college. By then I had a daughter I was supporting and then not long after I met my wife who had a daughter of her own. I worked full time and went to school full time all to way until it was time for grad school/chiropractic school. We had just gotten married the spring right before I started chiropractic school in the fall. To add to the party, we got pregnant with my son during my second trimester in chiropractic school. Talk about a workload. The school was tough and required A LOT of my time to succeed. My wife was my rock at home to help us get through this journey to graduation. We made it, alive and well!
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a wellness brand that offers a combination of chiropractic care and other manual therapies to relieve musculoskeletal aches and pains, and improve your quality of life. We adjust the joints in the body and are really well known for our myofascial treatments that address soft tissue problems. What sets us apart is the fact that we not only adjust the spine, but also spend time listening to muscular complaints and address those specific problems as well. I can’t tell you how many times a patient has told me “I have been searching for years for a chiropractor to address these muscular issues that you just did” or “This is the best treatment I have ever had in a chiropractic clinic” or “No one has ever adjusted me that way- I love it!”. We feel it just gives you a better treatment. We feel our brand makes a name for itself as a high-quality, efficient, effective, patient-friendly, affordable wellness brand in our area.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Don’t announce what you are going to do before you do. Things don’t always go according to plan. Be a doer, and let the rest speak for itself.
