Today we’d like to introduce you to Irma Vera.
Hi Irma, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born in a poverty-stricken area in the South of Mexico, I have made my way to Uptown Dallas. Being a hairstylist by profession, my passion has become to help the community of women to find spiritual, mental, and emotional wellness one story at a time. This all started with the story of my mother, Petrona, who had a difficult life early on in her marriage.
She suffered many hardships that would break any person’s spirit down, but somehow, she managed to overcome each chaotic event that presented itself. Witnessing my mother fight for a better life for me and my siblings, wondering how she had the strength to persevere and where she found it, inspired me. This brought me to create Power Peace and Love, an online platform where people from all over the world share their stories to empower each other.
I felt led to share my mother’s story and to share the stories of many other women, with the mission to empower them- so that they can then empower the next woman, and the next woman, and the next- to overcome and thrive in life.
Along with creating Power Peace and Love, I am the founder of a 501(c)(3) non-profit, Chocolatada: Amazon Children’s Mission. The mission of Chocolatada is to raise awareness for the children in the Amazon Region of Peru. Chocolatada also provides for the urgent needs these children have for shoes, food, clothing, hygienic products, and medical care. The mission is to offer these children a better quality of life and bring joy and hope to this poverty-stricken region. The organization is named “Chocolatada” because once a year in December, the team visits with hot chocolate and pastries to hand out along with donations and toys.
I like to say, “Bringing to light the existence of children in remote areas of the Amazon region, because poor children exist everywhere and each child deserves a better quality of life.”.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been easy to advocate for women’s empowerment, equality, better opportunities, better salaries, and better business positions, but thankfully, the powerful women before us who paved this path and opened up the dialogue for these issues and to leave a mark in this fight were also faced with many difficulties and still left us this legacy. Which is encouraging to me.
I’ve noticed that I myself have faced constant struggles with my beliefs and patterns I’ve learned, coming from a Hispanic culture. In the Latin community, there is term we use called “machismo”, which basically means the old school way of how men were and how they interacted with and saw women. Sadly, this attitude still exists to this day and many women still fall into these socially defined roles.
There is a lot of work to do but we now have more resources than ever that will help us create true justice for women, equal rights, respect, and recognition.
My hope is to create a world where there is an equal quality of life for both men and women, adults and children, and the key to this, in my opinion, is education and the eradication of poverty.
For example, I myself had to unlearn beliefs I had that I saw in my community growing up. I had to learn that domestic violence is not the “normal” way to live but sadly, it is still such a common belief in many cultures.
We need more emotional education, more empathy, more compassion, more respect, and more collaborative thinking where we all help one another and it is not an individualistic way of thinking.
I strongly believe that through this, that is how we will achieve a change of well-being for the greater good of humanity.
As you know, we’re big fans of Power Peace and Love, LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My job has always been behind the scenes, creating, strategizing, listening to the stories of my clients and guests, and writing about them.
Today, I also am a certified Life and Transformational Coach, from the International Coaching Group. In my certification process, I specialized in the studies of Bioneuroemotion and NeuroLinguistic Programming.
After a few years of Power Peace and Love and hosting an online show/podcast, I have created a new branch of PPL. The Center for Learning, Transformation, and Well-being, this is a service we offer to the community. Myself and a team of professionals from different countries have come together to guide, accompany, and advise people who are overwhelmed and unsure what to do in a time of crisis.
Our hope is to be a “first-responder” for crisis intervention, we are a safe and friendly space of care and emotional support and offer sessions in-person and online.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
One of the characteristics that has contributed to the success of our projects has been the honesty, compassion, and humility we express when we treat our clients and our guests.
When people share their stories with us, we hold space for them and listen to them. They are the essential part of the conversation because that is where other people who are listening may identify with those stories and bridge the gap to build community.
We strive to make them feel heard, understood, and accepted, and we recognize their efforts for their own healing and to be a part of the healing process for others.
Their messages have been of transformation and growth and before anything else, we let them know that they are not alone.
We hope to be the alternative to emotional well-being that cannot be cured with medication because sometimes people just simply need to be heard and have someone they can trust.
