Exploring Life & Business with Jan Showers of Jan Showers & Associates

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jan Showers

Hi Jan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Jan is a TCU alum and they did a great article on her back in 2017. Obviously, much of it is out of date as far as collaborations and stuff go but this is a great history on her start as a designer as well as her life with her family. Please let me know if you need more info than this. I figured you could pick and choose from this feature.

Jan Showers’ Signature Elegance

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I LOOK BACK ON MY 40 YEARS IN DESIGN AND HAVE TO SAY IT HAS BEEN PRETTY SMOOTH—OF COURSE, THERE WERE TIMES THAT WERE IFFY LIKE THE RECESSION OF 2008 WHEN BIG PROJECTS WERE PUT ON HOLD, AND TIMES (VERY RARE) THAT CLIENTS WERE A PROBLEM, BUT MY CAREER HAS BEEN A JOY FOR ME FROM ITS BEGINNING AND STILL IS—I DO NOT PLAN TO RETIRE—I FEEL ENERGIZED AND MORE CREATIVE THAN EVER.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Jan Showers is one of the world’s most celebrated interior designers. Her signature style—a blend of timeless glamour, European refinement, and relaxed American elegance—has redefined contemporary luxury and established her as a preeminent voice in design.
A pioneer in recognizing the importance of French 1940s design, Showers transformed the landscape of American interiors. Her trips to Paris, London, and Venice, searching for extraordinary pieces that elevate every interior, have defined the unique look that has become her trademark. Through her Dallas Design District showroom, Jan continues to introduce designers and clients to the sophisticated allure of this pivotal period in European vintage and antiques.
Named to Architectural Digest’s AD100 and recognized with the industry’s highest honors, Showers maintains an active design practice while extending her aesthetic through the Jan Showers Collection and collaborations with luxury brands including Kravet Couture and Kyle Bunting. Her work, featured in every major design publication, exemplifies her belief that “design should relate to the way we live—it should be beautiful, glamorous, comfortable and luxurious, even when very casual.”
Her previous books—Glamorous Living, Glamorous Rooms, and Glamorous Retreats—have become essential resources in the design world, celebrated for their insight into creating spaces that balance chic sophistication with inviting warmth. The Glamorous House will be released in October 2025.
Jan lives in Dallas with her husband, Jim, where she continues to create timeless interiors for clients worldwide.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I LOVE THAT DALLAS TRULY LOVES GOOD DESIGN—I THINK THIS CITY IS UNIQUE IN THAT WAY. DALLAS PEOPLE LOVE FOR THEIR HOMES TO BE “DONE”. THAT IS NOT ALWAYS THE CASE IN SOME CITIES. What do you like least about our city? THAT’S A HARD ONE—I’M A BIG FAN—TRAFFIC HAS GOTTEN WORSE BUT I HAVE WAYS TO AVOID THAT.
