Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmyn Richardson.
Hi Jasmyn, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
How I became an officiant is always a hard story to tell because sometimes I feel like I don’t know how I got here. I was living my normal life as a maternal-fetal medicine sonographer for a large physician group in Fort Worth, TX, and I never thought that my life would be completely changed by weddings. I shadowed another officiant on a whim after she convinced me that I should give it some thought. I ended up performing that ceremony instead of watching, and afterwards, I was hooked. I feel like this career literally fell in my lap, but I couldn’t picture my life any other way. I love officiating, and being an event professional is a wild ride!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road, but some struggles were definitely expected. I started out as a part of a partnership with another officiant. Unfortunately, that didn’t last, and the company was dissolved. That was when Joined By Jasmyn was born. My business was created during the pandemic, so I had to deal with all of the struggles that came with having a wedding while Covid-19 was still raging. I have also dealt with struggles that come with being a small business owner like finances and staffing. Thankfully, business increased, and I now have a team of 3 other officiants to help me take on the client load. I never could have gotten this far without the help of my husband Timothy Richardson, and my 3 associate officiants, Mesia Davis, Sarah Garcia, and Harley Cruz.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Joined By Jasmyn, LLC was created for all couples. I think that is one of the best things about us is that we are here for you no matter who you are, where you come from, your belief system, or what language you speak. We create ceremonies for weddings, vow renewals, commitment ceremonies, and other alternative ceremonies. We will also just sign your license if you do not desire a ceremony at this time. We can provide all of our services in both English and Spanish, which has been a game changer for the company, and it is definitely a factor that sets us apart from other officiant services. Each couple provides us with information to create a personalized ceremony for them, so each couple gets a ceremony that is perfectly for them. I am most proud of the stance that we have taken in the LGBTQIA+ community, of which I am a proud member. I make sure that these community members are loved on and well cared for because still in 2023 there are so many who don’t want to care for these couples. Leave them for me! I want them all! LGBTQIA+ ceremonies are my absolute favorite. I also try to make sure that I only recommend allied professionals in the industry so that all my couples feel nothing but love on their special day. We have even gone on to create Queerly Beloved, our future non-profit that provides some free weddings for LGBTQIA+ couples during Pride month. This year will be our 2 annual Queerly Beloved event and we are so excited! While we know that we are not for every couple and every couple is not for us, we want readers to know that we are here and available, and we would love to take care of you!
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
I have learned that even in a pandemic, the show must go on. a couple who is intent on marriage can have that even if the plan has to be tweaked a bit. They can still have a beautiful ceremony. However, a beautiful marriage is what is most important. Whether you are a couple marrying in the living room of your apartment, at the park, or at a huge venue, ultimately you want a strong, long-lasting marriage built on the right foundation.
