Exploring Life & Business with Jennifer Cahill of Republic Hair Co.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Cahill.

Jennifer Cahill

Hi Jennifer, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have been in the industry for 11 years. I finished my cosmetology and apprenticeship program in Portland, OR and moved to Dallas a few years later. Throughout my career I was focused on continuing my education and how I could better help my clients achieve the looks that best suit them and their lifestyle. Then I felt like it was time for my next big step. So I started to look for spaces for lease in Dallas to open up my own salon. I have always been passionate about education within the hair industry, so when I opened my salon I knew that would be a big thing for the business.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Opening a business is never a smooth road! You have this image in your head of what it will be like, then reality hits and it’s nothing like that. From creating a business plan to the financial aspect to dealing with the city of Dallas and subcontractors. And that’s just the buildout phase of it! Then you have to dive deep into the business aspect of everything. Which as a hairstylist, that doesn’t always come natural. But I hired a business coach and do monthly meetings with staff and my business coach to help ,make sure everything runs smoothly and we are clear about goals and numbers.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am the owner of Republic Hair Co, a hair salon located in Dallas. I opened the salon wanting a place for people who were creative to feel free to do what they do best! While offering education and look at the one thing that we as creatives don’t tend to look at, numbers. I also wanted a salon where everyone would feel welcome, whether your hair is straight, curly, oily, blonde, red, or brunette. We have a stylist that best fits your hair needs.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Resilience and determination. Although we all have our moments of “what am I doing?” we all have to come back to why we are doing it. This has given me the strength to keep going, even when I’m having what I call “a moment.” I give myself time to have my moment, whether that be time to sleep, relax, or just vent about what I’m going through. Then I feel better and keep pushing forward. We all come into this life meant to do something and I feel like this is my calling. Because I don’t just own a salon, I get to watch stylists grown throughout their career and see them evolve on a personal level as well
