Today we’d like to introduce you to Jokeeta Marzett
Hi Jokeeta, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Jokeeta Marzett, and at 32 years old, I’ve found my passion in real estate—specifically flipping homes. I’m also a licensed realtor, which allows me to be fully hands-on from start to finish in each project. My journey began alongside my husband, an air traffic controller and military veteran. We’ve been married for eight years and share three wonderful children, Haven (8), Maxen (5), and Zaden (3). Our story is one of resilience, faith, and transformation, rooted in faith and family and fueled by a desire to make a lasting impact.
It all started in Oklahoma City, where we first worked on a flip house with my husband’s family. Shortly after, we moved back to Texas and purchased our own flip. This project came with its share of challenges—our contractor ran off with a portion of our money. We were left with a choice: give up or keep going. We chose the latter. With determination and a lot of faith, we completed the project successfully.
This experience only deepened my passion for flipping homes, and over the last six years, we’ve faced obstacles—budgeting, managing contractors, and building confidence. But every finished project brings a deep sense of accomplishment that far outweighs the hardships.
One of the most meaningful moments in my real estate journey was flipping a house in the south part of Fort Worth, the very neighborhood I grew up in. Although the area wasn’t considered desirable, I wanted to give it the love and attention it deserved. I believe that no matter the price tag or location, homes should have character and a personal touch. Everyone deserves a beautiful, upgraded space to call home, and I aim to bring that level of quality to every property I work on.
Today, my husband and I continue to grow in real estate, managing our first short-term rental and completing multiple flips and remodels. I also teach others how to invest in real estate. Through it all, we keep God at the center of everything we do, believing that our journey is guided by faith and purpose.
As both a realtor and an investor, I take pride in being fully involved in every step of the process, from renovations to the final sale. My hope is that our story inspires others to pursue their passions, no matter the challenges that come their way, and to never underestimate the power of transformation—both in homes and in life.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
While I’ve faced several challenges in my real estate journey, one of the most significant has been navigating this industry as a Black woman, particularly as a general contractor. In many cases, I don’t receive the same level of respect as my male counterparts, which can be frustrating and disheartening. It’s also rare to see other Black women—especially Black women contractors—in my line of work, so I often find myself as the only person who looks like me in many spaces. That can feel isolating at times, but it’s also a reminder of the importance of my presence in this field.
On a more personal level, confidence has always been a challenge for me. I tend to be my own harshest critic, constantly aiming for perfection and seeking validation, which sometimes holds me back. I critique my work heavily because I want to make sure that it not only meets the highest standards but that everyone appreciates what I bring to the table.
Balancing work and life has been another struggle. My days are long, and the stress of managing projects means I often feel like I’m not spending enough time with my children or my husband. I carry the weight of ensuring every project is successful, but it often leaves little room for the everyday moments that are just as important. It’s a constant juggle, and I’m still working on finding that balance between being a dedicated professional and a present wife and mother.
We’ve been impressed with Marzett Homes LLC/Interiors By Jae, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a real estate investor, general contractor, designer, and stager, and what truly sets me apart is my hands-on approach. Whether it’s my own projects or those I manage for other investors, I am involved in every step of the process. I design every flip and project I work on, and I personally stage each one. You might find me installing a backsplash one day or creating an accent wall the next. As a licensed realtor, I also handle listing my own properties, ensuring that my clients’ homes are well-represented from start to finish.
What distinguishes my business is my unwavering commitment to doing things right. I’m a perfectionist, but I also have a servant’s heart. I believe in blending excellence with compassion, and I’m proud of my ability to connect with people on a personal level while delivering high-quality results. My brand is deeply rooted in faith, and I strive to help others—whether they’re purchasing their forever home, making an investment, or building generational wealth. I aim to create spaces that people can be proud of, regardless of the neighborhood or budget.
Through my business, I offer a comprehensive range of services: general contracting, design and staging, and real estate agent services. I feel honored to be a part of such significant moments in people’s lives, and I approach every project with the same care and dedication, knowing that what I create becomes a part of someone else’s journey.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
When it comes to finding a mentor, my advice is simple: put yourself in the room. Surround yourself with people who are doing what you do, pursuing what interests you, or achieving the things you aspire to. It’s all about getting in front of those who can help take you to the next level.
But it’s not just about showing up once—you have to be consistent. Attend networking events, panels, and public gatherings. There’s always something happening in real estate or any other industry, and your next mentor might be sitting in the same room as you. The more you put yourself out there, the greater your chances of building those meaningful connections.
