Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Brown.
Hi Josh, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
After graduating from Virgina Tech in 2009 and completing my service with the U.S. Army National Guard in 2013 I moved to Texas looking for what was “next”, I was hopeful to find my calling for what I should do for the rest of my career.
While I didn’t know what that career would be, I knew I was passionate about health and wellness, so I wanted to lean into that. That led me to pursue my personal training certification on the side as I was working my sales job which I got shortly after moving to Texas just to get some income coming in.
After obtaining my certification, I started personal training to earn side income. This led me to making connections in the health and wellness industry, which led me to starting a nutrition and fitness company with one of those connections that I met.
While the nutrition and fitness company that I started was ultimately unsuccessful as I left that venture after about 1 year, it was a crucial part of my journey as running a failed business qualified me to run a business more than going to college for 5 years did.
During that year, I learned many valuable business and life lessons. I also learned of a new emerging trend in the health and wellness industry called cryotherapy.
Having previously done cold plunges and ice baths and being a proponent of them, I was intrigued by cryotherapy which many dubbed the “modernized version of an ice bath”.
I had the opportunity to try cryotherapy at a wellness spa and was instantly hooked after noticing many benefits firsthand. Cryotherapy helped me with my Achilles heel pain due to bone spurs, reduced back pain from my scoliosis, as well as other areas of pain and soreness.
I also noticed sleeping better, more energy, amongst many other health benefits as well.
Based on my own personal experience with Cryotherapy, my passion for health and wellness, and the timing, I felt I had no choice but to “take the (cold) plunge” as it seemed too good of an opportunity to pass up.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely nothing about the journey has been smooth.
I have curated my entire existence around the business which has required making countless sacrifices.
Some of the struggles have included working 100+ hour work weeks for over 10 years, not taking a vacation for over 10 years, literally living at the office for multiple years, missing out on important family milestones, having relationships fail due to not having enough time to dedicate to the relationship, employees stealing from me, being forced to shut down the business due to Covid for 2 months while still paying my employees, my rent, and all my bills.
However, I wouldn’t trade in any of the struggles or wish for a smoother road as the bumps and bruises, the trials and tribulations, the pain and the suffering have made me better, more resilient, and turned me into the best version of myself, so I am thankful for all the struggles as I understand it is a prerequisite for success.
The difficulty and the struggles are what make the journey valuable in the first place. If it was a smooth road, it wouldn’t be worthwhile.
