Today we’d like to introduce you to Julia Bryant.
Hi Julia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Honestly, I never set out to start a business. I just always had a deep passion for helping others run theirs, especially small businesses. Early on, I worked closely with a nonprofit, interning through college and later full-time after graduation. Then the pandemic hit, and I lost my job and I struggled to find a job for almost a year. It was a really tough period in my life, but what I always tell people, “if you don’t know what to do, at least go learn something.” So, I went back to school for my master’s. In my marketing class, we had a semester-long project helping an architect set up his business. I went all in, branding, a mock up website, marketing guides, the whole nine yards. When the semester ended, he was so impressed, he reached out to hire me to implement it all for him.
That’s truly what sparked my freelance journey. About nine months in and a few referrals later, I took the leap and started my business full time as New Haus Studio.
In past roles, I often found myself in environments resistant to change. I got tired of hearing the phrase “that’s how it’s always been done.” I knew there were better systems, more collaborative ones, open to new ideas. That’s why I built New Haus, a fresh, welcoming space (Haus, meaning home) for doing things right.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, there’ve been potholes, detours, you name it. That’s entrepreneurship, right? One challenge is trust and credibility, there’s so much competition in marketing and the creative world, people often just search for the cheapest option. I’ve had folks apologize for ‘waisting my time’ after hearing my rates, because they truly didn’t know the cost and time it takes for marketing. And being a young woman in her 20s, adds a whole other level of challenges.
But now, AI is a whole new twist. People are using it to replicate (yes I have old clients stealing my work and reproducing it with AI) or just replace creative work in general, sometimes without understanding what they lose. So now, I’m not just creating, I’m forced to educate on what real, thoughtful marketing looks like in a marketplace where people can make content with the click on a button.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What should you know about New Haus?
I’m a boutique marketing agency built on four pillars: branding, graphic design, web design, and thoughtfully integrated social media. Everything starts with a strong brand foundation. That’s where we really dig in.
Once that foundation is set, I keep things efficient. I focus on meaningful work, not endless micro details. I partner with clients who trust the vision and value time, because I believe in protecting both our time and the work that truly drives results.
If you want someone who cares about your business like you do and will help keep you accountable when marketing feels overwhelming, that’s me. I’ll help you show up, look trustworthy, and stand out.
What am I proud of?
Those full circle moments when local brands I’ve loved and shopped at for years reach out to work with me. And being one of the first people in my family to own and operate a business.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
When I think about luck, it’s really been a mix of good and bad, especially when COVID hit. Losing my job then was a shock, but even in that bad luck, I found a chance to grow. I learned that if you keep showing up, if you persevere, even when things don’t go your way, good things can come.
Someone asked me the other day how I landed a pretty big client, and I laughed, like, this is my work, I’m good at what I do. But honestly, it was a mix of being ready, working hard, and having that luck, the right timing, the right place. As a small business owner, it’s about putting yourself out there, without expecting immediate returns, because sometimes, that’s exactly when the right opportunities find you. And when they do, it all lines up.
