Rustic Expressions Texas is a family-owned business with a story that goes back to 1989. From the very beginning, our purpose has been to preserve history while forging the future — that’s the legacy we stand for. We take pride in reusing wood from old haciendas and barns from the Sierra of Chihuahua and other iconic regions of Mexico, giving new life to materials that carry history within them.
What started as a small family passion for woodworking has grown into a business that serves both retail and wholesale customers across the U.S. Each of our pieces is handmade by skilled artisans who treat every detail with care. We work with a variety of woods — like mineral woods, alder, poplar, cedar, and mesquite — each with its own unique character, texture, and color.
Over the years, we’ve expanded our line to include furniture for homes, offices, bars, and restaurants, as well as a wide selection of rustic décor. One of the things our customers value most is our custom order service, where they can choose the perfect design, whether rustic, traditional, or modern, and we bring it to life.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. Like many family-owned businesses, we’ve faced challenges along the way. One of the biggest has been balancing tradition with innovation — staying true to our rustic roots while adapting to changing customer needs and modern market trends.
Another challenge has been the logistics of sourcing and transporting reclaimed wood from old haciendas and barns. Each piece of wood has its own history and condition, so the process of preparing and working with it requires time, skill, and creativity.
We also went through periods where the economy made it difficult to sustain growth, especially during times when customers were more cautious with their spending. But those moments pushed us to focus on what makes us unique: quality, custom design, and sustainability.
In the end, those struggles became lessons. They taught us resilience, adaptability, and the importance of building long-term relationships with our customers and community.

My advice is to stay open and curious. A mentor can be someone in your industry, but also someone outside of it who offers a different perspective. What has worked well for me is building genuine relationships — not just networking for opportunity, but really connecting with people, listening, and sharing. Over time, those relationships naturally grow into mentorship.
