Exploring Life & Business with Kandy Robertson of iKandyland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kandy Robertson.

Kandy Robertson

Hi Kandy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My parents were Cambodian refugees and survived a genocide. I am the first and last to be born in America. I had many responsibilities as a young child since my parents didn’t speak English. I also had a very dysfunctional and abusive childhood, which led me to make many hardships for myself as a young adult. I went to college initially for art but switched careers to become a nurse. Once I learned that I would become a mother, I didn’t have much support from my family and had many hardships, leading me to become a single mom twice and a survivor of domestic violence. During my life, I dreamed of having more and better lives for myself and my children, so I fought many battles to pursue a career in acting and own a business. I started many businesses in the past, many of which did not take off like I wanted, but the skills that I’ve obtained from them have led me to become the successful CEO I am today. My career path led me to leave nursing forever and push my social media marketing agency full-time in 2020. In 4 years, I’ve received 7 national and international awards, the title of Social Media Expert to follow for 4 years in a row, many magazine features, and half a million followers across my social media platforms.

Let’s dig a little deeper into the story. Has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
It was most definitely not a smooth road, lol. Many people in my life tried to stop me from achieving my goals. Many of those were family members or people close to me at the time who did not want me to succeed or did not believe in what I wanted—lots of fights, arguments, battles, endless tears, a lot of trauma, and despair.

Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your business.
iKandyland is a social media marketing agency that helps businesses and personal brands reach more people organically without paying for ads by using short-form videos to help them go viral. I offer 1:1 coaching, corporate training/group training, and social media management, which includes video production as well.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was a shy individual, and I was bullied throughout my childhood. I had a hard time standing up for myself. I was quiet. Around high school was the most awkward time of my life. Like many people, I tried to fit in, be famous, etc. I was nerdy and weird. I loved anime and boy bands. LOL. I started to grow into my personality in my later years. All the experiences helped me become more authentic to myself.
