Hi Karen, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Guatemala, and the first time I ever boarded a plane, I was just 11 years old, flying from Guatemala to my new home here in Texas. That flight changed my life. Looking out that window, I felt something shift in me, and from that moment on, my love for travel and the world never stopped growing.
Since then, I’ve carried that sense of wonder into everything I do. I love exploring new countries, discovering different cultures, and experiencing all the beauty this world has to offer. Travel, to me, is one of the greatest gifts you can give to the people you love. It’s the gift of knowledge. It opens your eyes, broadens your heart, and helps you appreciate everything you have.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been easy but God has always provided me with people along the way to help me . I also, have the support of my family and a group of women who are willing to share their knowledge, and they help me improve every day.

At Saunders Travel Company, what truly sets us apart is the heart behind every trip we plan. I started this business because I genuinely love helping people experience the world, and I want every client to feel completely cared for from start to finish, whether they’re a family planning a dream vacation, a couple celebrating a honeymoon, or a solo adventurer setting off on something new.
My work goes far beyond booking flights and hotels. I take the time to listen closely, understand what matters most to each client, and manage every detail so they can relax and look forward to their journey without stress. My goal is simple: when it’s time to leave, all they have to do is enjoy the experience. Over the past two-plus years of building Saunders Travel Company, I’ve learned that people aren’t just looking for a vacation; they’re looking for meaningful experiences they’ll remember forever. I take that responsibility to heart. Seeing my clients return with big smiles and unforgettable stories is what makes this work so rewarding.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I think there is always a risk of starting a new business. Fortunately, I have the support of my husband and my family. And I think that makes it worth it.
