Today we’d like to introduce you to Karissa Burden.
Karissa, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I knew I wanted to be a nurse back in high school — caring for others has always come naturally to me. After graduation, I went on to earn my bachelor’s degree in nursing and quickly began my career at Baylor All Saints as a cardiac nurse. Starting in such a demanding specialty during the height of COVID was both challenging and eye-opening; it taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of compassion in every interaction.
Over time, I discovered a growing passion for aesthetic medicine — the blend of science, artistry, and human connection really spoke to me. I began pursuing specialized education and hands-on training in aesthetics while continuing to work full time. Today, I’m a nurse at Texas Health Harris Methodist in Fort Worth and am simultaneously building my own aesthetics business with the dream of one day growing it into a med spa.
It’s been a rewarding journey — from bedside nursing to the world of aesthetics — and I’m so grateful to be able to combine my medical background with my passion for helping people look and feel their best.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Transitioning into aesthetics while maintaining my nursing career hasn’t been easy. Building a successful aesthetics business requires much more than technical skill; it takes business knowledge, ongoing education, financial investment, and a lot of perseverance. There’s marketing, client relationships, regulations, and staying current with trends — all while ensuring patient safety and trust remain top priorities. Balancing all of that, along with being newly married since October 2023, has added another layer of challenge, but also a lot of motivation. I want to build a life for my future family.
We’ve been impressed with KB Lux Aesthetics, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
KB Lux Aesthetics is built on the idea that confidence should look and feel natural. I started my practice to create a welcoming space where clients can trust they’re getting personalized, high-quality care. I specialize in neurotoxins, dermal fillers, IV therapy, and Sculptra — treatments designed to enhance natural beauty and help clients feel refreshed, not “overdone.” As KB Lux continues to grow, I plan to expand my offerings with additional services to provide a more complete, full-service experience.
What really sets KB Lux apart is the individualized experience. I take time to listen, educate, and create treatment plans that complement each client’s unique features and goals. I’m most proud of the relationships I’ve built and the trust my clients place in me. KB Lux isn’t just about aesthetics — it’s about empowerment, confidence, and helping people feel like the best version of themselves.
How do you define success?
For me, success isn’t just about numbers or growth — it’s about impact. I define success by how many people I’m able to help feel more confident, cared for, and comfortable in their own skin. Whether it’s a patient in the hospital or a client in my treatment chair, my goal is always to make a positive difference in someone’s day.
Building KB Lux Aesthetics while balancing my nursing career and personal life has taught me that success also means resilience — continuing to grow, learn, and stay grounded through every challenge. True success, to me, is creating a life and business that align with my values: compassion, authenticity, and purpose.
