Today we’d like to introduce you to Kate Briones.
Hi Kate, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
So I have always been obsessed with eyebrows. I had my brows done in a nail salon when I was 11 and was so upset about the outcome. Years go by and I become the brow girl in my family. Cleaning up my siblings brows, experimenting with shapes and brow makeup trends. In 2020 my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer and before her battle with it, she wanted to “get her brows done” me, being the brow girl in my family demanded I find the artist and I go with my mom. That day changed everything… not only did I see her confidence boost like I’ve never seen before, but I also saw a service I know I could excel at. I took an in person hands on 4 day training when mandates opened back up and I have never felt more motivated in my life. I had just become a first time mom, had just enough to invest in starting my business and I just did it. I instantly picked up my techniques & took more online trainings & took on all my family who let me, did their brows. After that my clientele grew and honestly proud to say that most of my clients are referrals these days and so blessed.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not. I started this journey with no mentor, no one I could lean on and no one I could ask for corrections or guidance. The PMU industry can be not so kind. Especially in that era of business. Competition vs. community has been something I’m always actively working on and I felt the stress in the beginning of having no one to lean on. I offered so many free services, constantly had a sale going on and it took about 2 years to get organic clients that just wanted to see me because of who I am not just the sale I was running.
As you know, we’re big fans of BrowBabeStudio. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I am the owner and CEO of BrowBabeStudio in Fort Worth’s design district. We’ve been fully operating for a year and afew months and this started with just me and a partner Jazmin Alfaro, who wanted to co work together and it has grown into a fully woman operated and ran tattoo/pmu/esthetics studio salon. I specialize in nano brows, microblading & faux freckles but also mentor others into their own businesses & how to start a brow business. Creating a team full of women who all have one goal in mind was my initial dream with opening BrowBabeStudio and I’m so proud of every artist we have in studio.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Taking risks is scary because this means the possibility of no return or no profit. Starting a business has definitely in itself, has been the biggest risk to take. And starting a brow business? Oh come on. There are thousands of brow artists in the DFW area alone. But, I have found that staying true to myself, offering luxury and personal experiences to my clients, has helped my clients find me. There has been times where no profit came in and there has been times where the profit was tripped but without taking the risk, no change would’ve taken place at all. I believe taking a risk, a leap of faith if you will is the main quality in entrepreneurship, that’s a requirement.
