Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Brown.

Hi Kim, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We’re Kim Brown and Abigail Hoover, founders of Story and Strategy, a boutique public relations firm based in Fort Worth.

We didn’t set out to start our own business, rather our partnership developed over a period of years as colleagues at Cook Children’s Health Care System. Since meeting in 2017, collaborating has been easy, and we quickly learned that our best work is often done together.

We started Story and Strategy in 2022 to fill a specific need in Fort Worth. With nearly three decades of combined experience in journalism, media and strategic communications, we saw a gap in the local market for dedicated public relations consultants who could handle everything from everyday communications to complex crisis issues. With Fort Worth now the 11th largest city in the U.S., we felt the time was right for a boutique firm dedicated to public relations and strategic communications.

Over the past three years, our firm has grown to work with some of the biggest changemakers in North Texas. Our approach is centered in telling impactful stories that move people to action.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As any business owner can attest, the journey comes with the highest highs and a few lows. We’ve been fortunate to be surrounded by our supportive families, friends and colleagues along the way. Our first couple years in business were a balancing act as we both held full time jobs with in-house PR teams. Today, balance continues to be a critical facet as we work to grow Story and Strategy into one of the leading PR firms in North Texas.

In the past three years, we’ve overcome many challenges including teaching ourselves how to start and operate a successful business. We also built a robust client roster from scratch and managed to win multiple Worthy Awards in the process. Our work has resulted in media exposure worth millions of dollars for our clients, and has pushed us out of our comfort zones almost daily. From being invited to speak at conferences to becoming a finalist in the 2025 Fort Worth Business Plan Competition, we’re continually amazed at the opportunities in front of us. It’s been a great reward and worth every struggle.

Story and Strategy is unique in that we are a boutique PR firm skilled in storytelling and crisis communication. Whether a client wants to communicate with their audience or needs help navigating a crisis, we offer turnkey services that can be activated quickly and efficiently. Our portfolio includes some of the region’s most influential organizations including Cook Children’s, Abilene Christian University, Center for Transforming Lives, The WARM Place, Girls Inc. of Tarrant County, as well as businesses, startups and higher education institutions.

Our mission is to serve as a catalyst for our clients’ success, ensuring their message is heard, trusted and acted upon. We’re also pushing the boundaries by empowering others to tell their own stories. We believe all ships rise with the tide of great storytelling. This is why we offer training courses that teach individuals and teams how to do what we do.

We’re known for our deep knowledge of the Dallas-Fort Worth market, senior-level strategic counsel and award-winning PR expertise. Our clients value specialized, high-impact PR services and understand its role as a business-critical function.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
As a boutique firm, we’re small enough to be nimble, but have the credentials and experience of senior advisors. When our clients hire us, they know exactly who is working on their behalf. Our flexibility allows us to easily integrate into teams, understand what’s needed and adjust course in real time. Since we work with a smaller client base than larger firms, we are able to deeply understand each client’s needs and personalize our work accordingly.
