Exploring Life & Business with Lacy Dickey of Jynnifer Lacy Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lacy Dickey

Hi Lacy , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
From an early age, I started using my moms first series digital canon camera. I would sneak away and take photos of our animals, plants and eventually started making my sisters model for me ( I always thank them for their sacrifice and willingness to participate haha …it was rough in the beginning). By the age of 12 I knew how to work a camera well enough to start taking photos at our own family gatherings and etc. Fast forward , my parents always knew my interest in photography was there.

So , one Christmas Years later , they set the foundation for me , for my now full-time career. I will never be able to thank them enough for seeing what my interests were and investing in me. I would not be here where I am without them and their support. I started picking up smaller sessions here and there for some side money during my college years.

I graduated with a degree with wildlife management from Tarleton State University in 2013. And shortly after graduation, I began a career as a wildlife ranch manager for almost 7 years. During my free time from the ranch, I still dabbled in photography and started creating a platform for a clientele.

When I had my first daughter/ child , I had a big identity crisis ( don’t all new moms?), and had some really hard but life changing decisions to make with my husband. He was just beginning his journey into becoming a firefighter in Abilene and between his school for that, paramedic school, and his clinical’s, WITH A NEWBORN , we both just were gone so much with our Jobs that we had to make the decision for me to stay at home. My gosh , talk about life altering. What now?

Well , I still did photography time from time. My daughter and husband became my biggest motivation to listen to the voice inside my head to “Go For It”. A lot of lessons learned along the way, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I am so glad everything leading up to this very moment in my life has happened. I get to do what I love and be there for my kids/ family.

I have a good business foundation set here in Abilene , BUT I am from south DFW and travel often to do sessions for families / businesses in the area. Photography has led me to Travel places I never thought I would. It also has led me to meet some of the coolest people I know.

With the continued support from my family and friends, it ignites a fire in me to keep going and ride the wave.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have had some big life lessons learned through this process. Growth is never easy. With in life or a business. You must find a way to trust the process and remember why you started in the first place.

The BIGGEST struggle I have faced was when covid-19 first hit. I still have moments where I am triggered by conversations entertaining the idea of a “spike in numbers with covid” Etc. If you were or are a Wedding Vendor or Event Vendor, you can understand the devastation and struggles that were faced during the year of 2020. My career got to be finally moving upward with photography, I had a ton of progress in the year 2019 and was being kept busy, VERY busy with my photography…FINALLY !

As a newer business owner , the anticipation for what 2020 would bring, nothing but excitement in the beginning. But soon after, would turn out to be one of the hardest longest road my business would face. I felt so bad for all the weddings that had to be rescheduled , honestly dreaded every email , text or phone call I got that first month lock down happened. 26 events I had booked that year…. ALL had to be rescheduled ….some it took up to TWO YEARS TIME to actually happen. So my last event from covid actually was in 2023. I look back and think how did we make it? How did anyone make it? Think of all the profitable dates taken away from future clients because of reschedules. Think of all the devastated brides and grooms who had to move dates and some loved ones died in the process of that reschedule because they lost their battle with Covid. It was a terrible, long few years but after that last event in 2023, I could breathe and move forward.

Honestly, when I reflect on my journey thus far, THAT was the hardest road to endure .

We’ve been impressed with Jynnifer Lacy Photography, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I specialize in Portrait Photography which includes anything from , families, newborns, milestone sessions, couples, headshots, landscape, wildlife , animal, artist debutes, lifestyle, promotional, marketing, etc.

What I believe separates me from other photographers, is I am there more than to just click the camera and leave. I genuinely want people to have the Best experience. I love to make people laugh. I am also known to hype people up, what can I say, I’m a hype girl.

I also have been told that I make others feel welcomed and comfortable. That is always an amazing compliment to receive. I give high quality galleries in return for your investment in me.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I just want to say thank you to those who continue to support and book with me. My family and I truly appreciate you more than you know. And I can’t wait to see where 2025 takes me.
